“Quite Extraordinary”

I visited The Burrell Collection in May of 2014. Unfortunately du to water damage the upper level was not open to the public. However the amazing collection on the lower level was available. It was put together as a private collection not as a museum piece. Since the museum is only relatively 'young' it is very sad indeed that already there are such water problems. The formal rooms are a joy and the collection of Impressionist paintings and Chinese porcelain to name just a couple are amazing. A must see. Also set in the most beautiful parklands.

Before you go to see the collection please look into all the information regarding the collector of more than 8000 objects.
Armed with the background of Sir William Burrell you will enjoy the experience of this wondrous collection and see the amazing work carried out to assemble the thousands of historical items.
Sunny days are best for this as the grounds in which the Collection is housed are serene and perfect for a family day out.
Helpful staff and a friendly cafe all add to the quality of the visit.
Do it this summer.

“ANOTHER TICK ON THE BUCKET LIST”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

It has been a long held ambition to visit The Burrell Collection so my husband organised for us to visit it on a day trip to Glasgow. We caught the 05.57 from Crewe arriving in Glasgow about 9ish then a local train to Pollackshaws West meant we arrived at the museum before it opened at 10.00. Once inside we went directly to the cafe which is so light and airy because the building is all timber and glass and you actually feel as though you are sitting outside in Pollock Park. The choice was good including several gluten free options. Brownie points all round. After a reviving drink and a cake we went to look at the exhibits. There was a special exhibition of paintings entitled 'Bellini to Boudin' - absolute superb choice of paintings out of the 600 in the collection. Even better there was a touch screen next to each painting which gave information about the artist and the painting. I can honestly say it is the best exhibition I have been to for years and I recommend it as a reason for visiting the museum. We visited every bit of this eclectic collection - no dusty show cases here - everything displayed to its advantage in this lovely light and airy setting. Glasgow are so privileged to have been bequeathed such a wonderful collection. Also highly recommended is lunch in the Burrell Cafe - the food is fresh and tasty with gluten free options for my husband and all at a reasonable price.
