“Poor Hotel”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

This hotel has no disabled facilities. We visited during Commonwealth games and paid £290.00 for 3 nights, not including breakfast.. We were situated in the basement, in a so called double room, which was a single room with a 3/4 bed pushed up against the wall. The heating couldn't be turned on, the window was painted shut. The very tiny bathroom was about 6 yards down the corridor and shared between several rooms. There was no wifi in the room, although it was advertised and the phone signal was almost none existent.
One saving grace, the only member of staff whom we saw was as helpful as she could be, considering it was her first day coping alone.

Room Tip: Don't accept a basement room!

We stayed in the Kelvin Hotel for two nights with our 20 month old daughter. While the Kelvin is certainly a budget option - our room was a little dated and a tad on the small side - we had a very enjoyable stay and felt well looked after. Despite its somewhat dated decoration, the hotel was absolutely spotless - the bathroom was shared but we had no complaints as it was always pristine. The lady that seemed to be running the hotel was very friendly and accommodating and obviously has high standards which shows throughout. We were able to use the staff microwave to heat our little girl's bedtime milk and to wash her bottle and weren't made to feel like we had put anyone out which can sometimes be the case when making this type of request!

The hotel is conveniently located on a pleasant row of apartments and near to the underground station connecting with the rest of the city. The Botanical Gardens are a stroll away and make for a lovely morning visit!

Our room and bathroom was very well equipped with plenty of tea/coffee, biscuits and decent quality toiletries which one doesn't normally expect for such an inexpensive choice so we were pleasantly surprised.

All in all, a great place to rest your head and discover a city full of life!

We were lucky enough to book this hotel at a reasonable price for our visit to Glasgow to see the rugby. A lot of hotels we looked at had really increased their prices when the games were on and ones we had stayed at before were way over the top! We found the Kelvin hotel on a website and were very pleased with it - good price, clean, very helpful staff and freshly cooked breakfast to order. Very central for us, access by bus or taxi was't a problem and we really enjoyed our stay and the rugby and atmosphere in and around Glasgow was excellent.

I spent 4 nights in this a hotel in July
I did not have hot water in the shower.
My room was in the lower level and smelt damp. I could not turn the heater on.
Wifi connection was really bad.

I do not recommend this hotel.

£150.00 per night without breakfast. Clean. Washbasin only, toilet and shower along corridor. Exceptionally small room looking out onto underneath of entrance staircase. Double bed against wall. Hostel facilities at big hotel prices.

Ok the positives - excellent location, friendly staff and nice breakfast - cooked, cereal, bread, yogurt, cheese and fruit!

The room was tiny and dated - £100 a night for this room is disappointing! I guess you can do this though when Commonwealth Games are on! Reading other reviews I suspect you could get this room at other times for less than £40.

The bathroom is along the corridor (no mention of this on website) and on the small side. Plus it was clean, negative the water was cold at normal showering times. A hot shower could be had around midnight.

When we arrived one of the staff was putting in bottles of water so we had no need to open the door with our key. Returning at midnight we could not get door open and had to use bell and wake up staff to find out if you turned the key to the right three times followed by a left and a right turn and a little wiggle the door would open!

We had a good time but would only recommend if the price was much lower than what we had to pay.
