My partner and I spent a romantic evening in The Mint hotel just after Christmas and were really pretty impressed. It's somewhere in which we'd eaten before and its riverside setting makes for a pleasant change from inner-city hotels. I'd recommend you take the time to ask for a river view as one side of the hotel faces the street and must be pretty uninspiring.
Also; silence. Absolute silence. I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere so quiet. The hotel wasn't busy by any manner of means, but I know that we had neighbours on at least one side of our room. Not a peep. What a difference that makes to your quality of sleep when you can't hear the murmurings of late-night conversation coming from the room next door. No street noise. No thin walls. Perfection.

We ate in the hotel's restaurant after a drink at the bar and both are stylishly turned out and professionally staffed. The food in the restaurant was really very good. My one complaint would be that a ten percent service charge had been added to our bill - for a table of two. I'm a tipper anyway and I would likely have left more than ten percent for a meal so good, but I would much rather have the choice.

The room itself was pretty-well appointed with internet, TV and a DVD/CD player. The bed was large and comfortable and the bathroom, although perhaps a little small, was immaculate with a large, hot and powerful shower. And, as I've mentioned, completely silent.

All in all, we were pretty happy with our choice and would recommend The Mint.

Room Tip: Ask for riverside! Quiter and nicer to look at.

Dear 'HoJu'

It is good to read that you had a relaxing stay in our Hotel.

The Hotel does not make any money from the discretionary service charge with all proceeds shared amongst the service team - the charge can be removed on request.

I am pleased that you recommend us and hope to welcome you back soon.

Kind Regards
Brian

Although it's about a 20 minute walk into town, the hotel's location on the river is beautiful. Free parking is a much welcome added benefit. Although the rooms are cozy, they are clean, comfortable, and well (though sparsely) decorated. I think this hotel is a great deal if you're fine with staying outside the City Centre.

My husband and myself visited this hotel when it was the City Inn a couple of years ago and enjoyed it then and I'm glad to say it was every bit as good this time. We were welcomed at reception with a lovely Scottish lady which was nice in itself as we have stayed in other Glasgow hotels with not a Scottish voice to be heard. We asked for a river view and fortunately there was one available and very nice it was too. The room was lovely with a very large comfortable bed, minibar and free safe. There was a kettle and tea/coffee in a drawer and a hairdryer in the wardrobe. The bathroom was small but had a very good shower and toiletries. We stayed for 2 nights and on both nights, probably because it was December, there were discos on and to be honest I thought we wouldn't be able to sleep but when we got to our room we hardly heard anything at all, it certainly didn't stop us sleeping. At breakfast, tea, coffee and toast is brought to the table and you order from a menu but you can also eat from the buffet which consists of cereal, fruit, juice etc. The hotel is in a perfect location if you are visiting the SECC - on this occasion we weren't doing that as we were going out with friends in the town centre which was about a 15 minute walk. The car park is a fair size and cost us £5 for 2 days. The last time we visited was in the summer and we had drinks on the terrace overlooking the River Clyde, lovely but as it was snowing this time, this was not an option. Hilton are taking over this hotel in February and hopefully they won't make too many changes, it is lovely the way it is and the staff were great, we were always greeted with a smile (apart from one lady on reception who should maybe look at her colleagues and learn a lesson from them). The next time we are in Glasgow, we will definately be staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

Dear 'LesleykScotland'

Thank you very much for rating us 5/5.

As you mentioned we are re-branding in February, however we will still be offering complimentary WiFi and iMacs in the rooms. In addition we will be improving the Hotel with a refurbishment of the bedrooms, improved fitness facilities and a complimentary business centre for guests with computers and a remote printing facility.

I hope that when you return you will like what you see....

Kind Regards
Brian

Great place to stay if your attending the SECC but about a 20 minute walk into town.

The room was a bit on the compact side but if you're only staying a night or two it is more than enough.

Had supper in the bar which was fine.

Went for breakfast towards the end of service so there were a couple of minor niggles - no glasses out for the fruit juice, no butter/ milk but these were sorted out quickly enough by the staff when brough to their attention

Unless you're wanting a guaranteed late check out of 3.00pm I don't think the River Package was very good value as apart from the late check out all it offers is free car parking (otherwise £5 overnight) a free drink at the bar (about £9.00) and 10 per cent off your food/drink bill. The view from the rooms wasn't that great to justify the extra cost. Next time I'll opt for the regular room package.

Main reason for staying in the hotel was for a concert at SECC which is just 100 metres away. Parking right next to the hotel which we were told was £5 overnight which is very reasonable but were not charged for it, so really good. Bar/food OK, breakfast really good, drinks a wee bit pricy. Front desk was very helpful and efficient. Infact all the staff we met were really friendly. Room was functional but comfortable but the shower room was small and the toilet position could have been much better designed. A couple of bits missing from the shower control which didn't look too good, but was clean. Quite alot of noise from the corridor which was a bit annoying and woke us up during the night. I really liked the iMac which you could watch TV as well as surf the net, and which was included in the room price. Why can't all hotels do the same? Good bus service with bus stop right outside for trips to the transport museum (worth a visit) and Kelvingrove (always worth a visit). Reasonably close to the city centre also. Although not really walking distance as one reviewer indicated, but just a short taxi ride £5 or bus trip if not too late at night. Certainly would stay again if going to SECC as price was reasonable and perfect location.

Cracking hotel, room was on the small side but really well furnished and decorated. iMac TV was something quirky and the view of the Clyde and the Squinty Bridge was an added bonus. Didn't use the bar/restaurant during my one night stay, but definately thought the room was lovely (once I worked out the aircon!) and the reception service was efficient and friendly. Great value for money.

Room Tip: The view on the river side is great.

Second stay in our UK trip and was a beauty!! Located right on the Clyde River close to the SECC, room modern although smallish, I-Mac equipped for internet access, bar area small but would make a killing if expanded, parking handy, cleanliness was good and staff helpful. We strolled into the city center and along the river to the Riverside Museum so location not a problem. Would stay again in a heartbeat !!!
