“An interesting stay at the Hilton”
Reviewed 28 July 2012

The rooms refurb of the Hilton Grosvenor in the west end of Glasgow has been successful with excellent boutique style furniture and ambiance.

The food at the restaurant "boVine" is ok, if a little unimaginative and with a price point that is on the high side for the standard received.

Staff are generally ok, but the time it takes to answer the telephone at reception or in the case of housekeeping, not at all, needs attention.

BUT, the biggest problem and issue the new GM needs to sort is - car parking and getting to the hotel through WAITROSE. A fellow guest's car was blocked in by a resident of the neartby flats as he had parked in error in their bay (there is no sign just a Hilton one); my own car seemed to roll over a metal bar making a banging noise under the chassis - and with only 25 spaces, for a hotel of this size...

So, what kind of impression do you think it makes arriving at the Hotel through a supermarket?

William Street Hilton in the City Centre, usually at the same price point more or less, does it far better.

Room Tip: We were in Room 312 - a suite overlooking the car park. Quiet. The windows are tiny - which helps I...

Dear IanCarGLA

Thank you for writing a review after staying at the hotel.

Unfortunately, due the the hotel's location in the heart of the West End, parking is limited. There is also free on-street parking available in the area, the locations of which our Front Desk staff are happy to advise of.

Please be assured I have passed all your comments on to our General Manager and our Heads of Department as comments such as yours are very important to us.

We hope to welcome you back to the Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor in the future.

Kind Regards

Loraine Bolan

The actual room in this hotel was perfectly nice; exactly what one would exect for a Hilton. However, there are some real oddities, beginning with the parking. There are very few spaces available on the top level of a Waitrose parking lot. We couldn't actually get a spot on the right level but fortunately the Waitrose attendant let us park on one level down. Then you get the lift right into the shop and have to lug your bags across the street to the hotel. Beyond that, the strangest thing is just the location - from the web site for the hotel you would think you were in a relatively central location but in fact you are very far away from the center of the city (can't walk there). It seems as though there are some trendy bars and restaurants nearby but more residential than anything. Probably would have been OK, except that we were spending only one night in Glasgow and would have liked to be more central. Overall, a fine hotel if you are OK with the location and strange parking arrangements.

Dear artprof13

Thanks for reviewing the hotel following your stay.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, and liked the hotel. I will be sure to pass on your comments to the Heads of Department.

Due to our location in the heart of the West End, parking is limited, however this is reflected in the costs which are some of the cheapest in the city.

We hope to welcome you back to the Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor in the future.

Stayed here as part of a family function, at the start of july 2012.

start at the begining, Parking is located on the top floor of the Waitrose carpark, however parking is very limited, around 25 spaces and costs £10 for overnight parking. then you get the lift down, which takes you into waitrose, then walk out the supermarket for about a 40-50yard walk to the reception area.

once in reception area, there is only 2 checkin posts, and considering the size of the hotel, i felt was small, with 3 people infront of me, it took about 25 mins to check in. we were assigned a room overlooking great western road, which wasnt a major as the windows were pretty air tight, maybe a issue however if you like sleeping with a window open. room was clean, and bed was amazing, best night sleep in a hotel for a long time, and it had nothing todo with the drinks that had been drunk as i was sober.

bar prices were suprisingly reasonable, was about £8 for a vodka mixer and a peroni, only down side was the small function room bar was no draught beers, but with a bigger bar across the corridor wasnt a major problem.

the breakfast in the morning was the usual hilton buffet and was very nice and had a good selection of breakfast items, staff very friendly, and attentive.

my advice would be always shop around for a cheaper deal, as we found other sites cheaper than hiltons own website, and the breakfast is worth the money.

The hotel is well located in the west end with lots of good shops and Resturants around. The hotel is overall quite good with nice rooms and friendly staff. The downsides for me were
- no air conditioning
- poor sound proofing to the A82 and neighbouring rooms
- a strong smell of fried meat from the hotel Resturant Bo'vine
- poor Internet signal

Upsides were
- good sized room, well decorated
- nice shower
- plenty of lights in the room ( why are hotel rooms always dark?)
- good sized desk to work on

Being a big fan of Glasgow's West End social scene, this was the second time I have stayed at the Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor which sits at the end of Byers Road, close to lots of the restaurants and bars (and lovely shops too!)
This time I stayed in a deluxe double which was very nicely decorated, spotless and free chocolates and water on arrival! The staff on arrival were very friendly and efficient.
As with last time, we visited the bar on our return from dinner - the bar staff were really nice and its a very relaxed place to have a drink and relax.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and the area it sits in - the standard of restaurants is very high and there is always a good atmosphere.

I had stayed in this hotel the previous year and was disappointed by the rooms as they were tired, with lots of cracks and chip marks on the furnishings. I did not plan to return. However, when I read that the hotel had undergone a major refurnishment I thought I would have nothing to worry about. The rooms are now at a hilton standard and very nice. On arriving it was a surreal experience...a very abrupt check in. No attempt to smile or give me information on the hotel. Really not what I would expect. And on leaving it was a similar story. And then to add amusement the barrier to the car park across the road was broken so I had to wait for a member of staff to amble over to let me out. Overall a bit disappointing but maybe it was an off day as other reviews seem fairly positive about staff.
