“Very Good Hotel”
Reviewed 2 June 2013 via mobile

Stayed at the Menzies Glasgow as part of honeymoon trip and overall the experience was excellent.

The reception staff made us feel very welcome on arrival and gave my new wife and I an upgrade on our booked room which was great!

Facilities are first class although in parts, despite the relative newness of the hotel, looked a little dated. But honestly, that's a personal comment rather than a fault.

Food is excellent and we dined in the Brasserie but portions are small. Staff perhaps a wee bit over attentive as there are only so many times you can be asked if "things are OK"!

Breakfast was buffet style and despite that (many people nowadays feel such service is off putting) food was fantastic and very well presented.

Swimming pool is great and the steam room helped get rid of the wedding alcohol!

All in all a good stay and as above, a heartfelt thanks to the reception staff who really are a credit to the hotel.

Have stayed at this hotel twice now with my boyfriend. Both times staff have been extremely friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and they had a great selection. Rooms are spotless and beds are very comfee. Facilities are fabulous with the sauna, spa and pool which are also all spotless. All in all just a great, lovely place to stay. Five minute walk from city centre, cheap parking at hotel . Recommend anyone looking for a city break to stay here !!

Spent 2 days at the Menzies at the beginning of May and loved the accommodations and food. The staff are very friendly and considerate to your needs. The wait staff were excellent The pub food was very good and the breakfast was excellent. Very good selection for the pub and for our breakfast. We had the breakfast included in our stay. The accommadations were excellent - comfy bed and nice room decor. The hotel is just a short walk to the Central rail station and shopping. Lots of pedestrian mall shopping 5 minutes away where you can see plenty of shops for every need and no vehicle traffic. Lots of pubs near by and attractions ( a good walk to St Georges Square ), but lots of shops on the way. Easy to get to and from and very convenient for any traveller or visitor. Very good hotel

I chose to stay at this hotel again with a friend in a twin room, as have always enjoyed my visits here before.

Our room was a very good size with a nice large television. Unfortunately, as seems to be the way with hotel rooms, there was no way to get the heating down lower than 18C and the window couldn't be opened. The room was nice and clean and one day when we were only out for a couple of hours, we came back and the room had been serviced in that time which was great.

We mostly made use of the hotel facilities. We'd booked some spa treatments, which are extremely good value and spent time lounging at the pool. I'm still surprised that no water is provided pool side, especially when there's a sauna and steam room - isn't it a legal requirement to have a water fountain in situ? The spa area is great but we were so thirsty that we didn't spend as long as we'd have liked here.

Our room rate included dinner, B&B, so one evening we had dinner in the hotel. The food was good, yet basic, hotel standard. I give top marks to the sticky toffee pudding! The service was slightly hit or miss and could do with some polish ie. we were asked 'are yous having desserts then?', it was also a bit rushed and I'd have liked the illusion that our food was being delicately prepared even if it was just being shoved under the hot lamp!

The location of the hotel is what makes it, plus the spa and pool area (the gym is getting quite tired and a lot of the equipment needs overhauled/replaced). There are usually good rates available and if you get meals included then it is very good value indeed.

We stayed here as part of a bus tour of Scotland. It was a wonderful place, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, close to everything. The train station is just a few blocks away if you are looking to tour from here. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent.

This Hotel is really handy for getting to Glasgow's main shopping area. The staff in the Hotel are very pleasant and always willing to help. We ate in the restaurant one night before going to the SECC for the Mark Knopfler Concert. The rooms are very comfortable with all the usual amenities. It was great having a fridge in the room too.
