“Good Value for couples”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

I stayed as a single person in a double room so paid the same as a couple would pay. I had to reject a room on the second floor as it smelled of smoke and requires refurbishment. The room I was then allocated was much better. The pillows are typical hotel issue so I was glad I had taken my own pillow. The breakfast was plentiful but is not for anyone on any kind of diet. The hotel is full of character and is in the process or refurbishment. Staff were helpful and I had no problem getting a better room. Just ask for first floor at the back of the hotel which is quiet.

Room Tip: See above.ask for 1st floor at the back of the hotel. There is no swimming pool. I did not intend t...

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel very last minute: on the train into Glasgow so we were expecting to have a bit of a problem with that. However on arrival the man at reception was very helpful and told us our room was not ready but he will try and get us ASAP after speaking to his colluage she advised him to just put us in a triple room insted of a double for no extra charge (£54.00!!) we went to the room and it was massive, flat screen tv, comfy double bed and a single (incase we argued haha), sofa, plenty of storage space, iron and board, tea, coffee, water and cookies, and a lovely big bathroom, what more could you want? The next morning we went down for breakfast at 9:20 when breakfast stopped at 9:30, we were welcomed in by the waitress and showed us to our table and went up to the hot buffet which was amazing! It was the same amount of choice you would get in a four star all inclusive hotel, and it filled us up for the day! Would recommend this hotel to everyone! We had a great time and the staff are very friendly, oh also there is a gorgeous bar on the first floor unfortunately we already had our night planned out for a night on the town but would definately return soon

I really must agree with thee others whom have commented on the poor customer service at front of house at check in ...really it doesn't take so much to be a little courteous and at least for the bit try look your interested! ...I myself have worked front desk in a hotel and if i had of made guests feel this way i would have very soon and deservedly have been showing the door. My wife and myself only stayed the one night in room 326 , a double with all you can eat buffet style breakfast for £48 total ..Our room was very spacious and clean with a great bathroom and shower, we were facing argyle street and we had no problems with noise other than road traffic , but nothing worth moaning about. I am completely honest in my opinion this hotel offers true value for money , we haved stayed in worse hotels for more money !

Please dont go by some of the scaremongering comments left here and go visit it for yourselves and see thats it actually a really nice place . But again i must say that the reception staff issue needs addressing pronto!!

I have added some piks of our time at the thomson hotel.

Room Tip: maybe ask to see any room before payment ?

Booked this last minute as we were going for a night out in Glasgow the hotel is central for everything the location of it is the only good thing about it I don't know what the decor is trying to be with samples of Charles Rennie Mackintosh design meets tartan meets early 90s decor. The staff are pretty unwelcoming with staff hanging about stairwells just staring at you not even saying a hello my husband thought it was actually the owner . The room was dull and basic with a big hole in the back of the bathroom door the extracter fan in the bathroom made a constant racket we checked out for 9 the next morning we never even had the breakfast when we were checking out we went up to reception to let them know and he just took the key not even asking about our stay the lack of interest they have in their guests is unbelievable would not recommend this place wish we had saved ourselves the money and just got the last train home.

We stayed here at this hotel for one Saturday night. As our room faced onto Argyle Street and there was no double glazing, it was very noisy until about 2am. Our room had a blocked up doorway to the next door bedroom and so we were disturbed when our neighbours came to bed at approx 12 midnight. The bed was very uncomfortable as there was no mattress protector provided and so the buttons on the mattress were extremely uncomfortable.
We came down to breakfast 10 minutes after the dining room had opened to find hard fried eggs, raw tomatoes, tasteless and pale sausages and potato slices that tasted as if they had been cooked the previous day and been reheated. The toaster was plugged into a gang socket suspended in the air and did not work unless we held the button down. One of the coffee machines was dispensing very weak coffee (running out of coffee?). The Weetabix was piled in a bowl having already been taken out of their packets and there were no spare cutlery and no teaspoons provided at all. The fixtures, fittings and general decor throughout the hotel are very tired and worn.
With the Commonwealth Games only 108 days away, this hotel would not be a good advert for Glasgow in the state thats its in and much development both professionally and materially should be done.

Lovely hotel, great location. Brill value as we only paid about £40 for the night for the two of us, including breakfast. Nice big room had complimentary bottles of water and a flat screen tv with freeview. The cooked breakfast was good and the waiting staff were very friendly.
