Stayed here for three nights for a wedding. Location is great, within walking distance of everything you needed although the one way driving system is very complicated. Although, don't expect much of a view, it appears a lot of this area is run down with derelict buildings surrounding. Needless to say the website of the hotel & the location is why we booked this hotel. The website certainly depicts the best bits which isn't completely reflective of the actual standard of the hotel.
Our room was fairly clean however there were straightener scorch marks on the surfaces, stains up the walls & curtains. There was definately smokers or smoking rooms nearby which was very unpleasant. Facilities were below average & our room faced the Main Street which although expected was very noisy. The room was very hot with no air con & being so noisy meant couldn't have the window open. Extractor fan didn't switch off either so be prepared for a restless nights sleep.
Very disappointed with breakfast which was actually disgusting. We attended at 7.45, only 15 minutes after opening & the cooked breakfast selection was all ridiculously dry & shriveled as if cooked way in advance. It was clear the produce was cheap with processed sausages & tinned mushrooms. It was observed most diners barely touched it which indicates a real waste all round. Only fruit options were tinned fruit salad which was poor.
Overall the hotel really needs a refurb, shabby tacky decor & grubby stains throughout. Was disappointed to not see much reference to Rennie McIntosh as indicated & another reason we chose here.
Location & price is the only advantage although if would spend more to go elsewhere for where this hotel is lacking. The Grand Central Hotel is 5 minutes away (where the wedding was) which is beautiful.

Stayed at this hotel recently as part of a group. Was disappointed from the word go. Reception is basically on ground floor, the lift is one flight up. And was out of action but a 2nd lift was being used. You had to go through a stairwell that led to what I can only describe as a back stair tenement flat in Glasgow. Room was reasonable but large burn mark on bed duvet. Food ok but self service. Overall wouldn't use this Hotel if I had to pay. Yes good location but that's all it's got going for it. Hopefully I can post 2 pictures taken from my room looking out the rear of the hotel.

This hotel is in a good location, but that is all that is going for it. The hotel needs a complete refurbishment as it is old and dated. We were in a room where the floor was sagging badly, the shower was hopeless and overall a disappointment. Rooms to the back look on to a wall and a rubbish strewn backyard.
Pay more and get a better hotel.

Room Tip: Radisson Blue is across the road

I keep going back here, so I have to admit that while it has definite downsides, this hotel also has a lot going for it as well as value for money. It is in a great location for the Central Station and the centre of the city. The rooms are a good size, the bed is very comfortable, the bathroom works, and effective wi-fi is included at no extra cost. On this occasion all the staff were helpful and polite. I just wish there were some more healthy options at breakfast.

Booked in by my work for 2 nights and arrived and noticed reception a bit dates and dirty but that didn't bother me as long as my room was ok. Corridor to my room dirty but I was still hoping room would be ok - opened door to room and burst out crying- brown crusty stuff on bedding, carpets sticky, cigarette burns on furniture and window ledges, curtains covered in brown and yellow marks, bathroom grimy with hair on floor, marks all over walls like drinks had been thrown against them and room smelt vile. Saw some of the reviews on here and can't understand, only thing I can think if is some if the floors have has a refurb but certainly not mine. I left within 10 minutes and my work tried to get refund but they refused. This might be a budget hotel but is dirty and disgusting - wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

Just back from four nights at the A Thomson Hotel. Very close to rail station turn right at the Argylle Street exit and about 400 metres up the road. We got a room at the back of the hotel which was a nice size and quiet. Only gripe was the shower small and the head was damaged so had to hold when washing which was annoying but was not worth moaning about to the staff. Breakfast was good and plentiful and fresh. Bar prices cheap. All round a great location and price. Would definitely stay again. Glasgow a fantastic place with great museums and architecture.

Room Tip: Room at the back of the hotel seems quietest.
