My wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Glasgow City Center Theatreland on August 09 &10, 2010. It is a nice hotel, a pleasant room, and a lovely staff with a very good location; however their wireless internet service was appallingly slow and lethargic. Having spent a significant amount of time in Mainland China, I can honestly say that the internet service was slower than my internet experiences in China. We also suggest that you request “an inside room”. The rooms on the West Nile Street have a view of the street and a parking garage and each can be quite noisy. It is not the fault of the hotel, but something to keep in mind if you want a quiet room. If you are driving to the hotel, please note that the parking garage can be expensive. It would have been preferred if the hotel had a discount for their guests who drive to their hotel.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay with us. I am delighted you found the location and our staff to be highlights of the hotel. I am sorry to hear you found the internet connection to be slow. Sometimes this happens during particularly high demand periods. We do have a business desk available with an alternative internet service should you encounter this problem again.

While the car park we advise guests to use does not belong to the hotel, we do have a special discounted rate, which is highly competitive for city centre parking, and we can validate your ticket at reception. Should we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to our hotel in the future, please ask at reception and we will be happy to advise you.

Thank you again,

Joanna Craig

Had a great stay here last month, front desk was very helpful with Parking arrangements, directions and other advice. Breakfast is pretty good too as are the rooms - very clean and all basic facilities you require (shower, no bath in my room).

Just a quick review to confirm what some of the others have mentioned. Hotel similar to many other HI express's (which is a good thing) and good city centre location with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby.

The reason for leaving the review though was to thank the guy at the reception when we checked in and then out again in the morning. Didnt catch his name but he has a goatee type beard. he was possibly the friendliest and most helpful front desk person I have ever had the pleasure to deal with (and this from someone who clocks up at least 80 hotel nights a year). Greeted you with genuine warmth on arrival and helped out with restaurant and travel advise (all of it good).

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our hotel. Like so many other reviewers have noted, our central location and friendly staff are just two of the reasons why people choose to stay with us.

The member of staff you are talking about is called George, and I have made sure your kind comments have been passed on to him.

We all look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel should you stay with us again in the future.

Glasgow was our gateway to our church youth pilgrimage to Iona. After an overnight flight and a full day of Glasgow's cathedrals and necropolis, we were ready to drop. The staff welcomed us warmly, accommodated our large group of 11 teens, gave us access to a meeting room for our evening compline service, and set breakfast out early for us as we had an early departure by coach to Iona. On our return from Iona, we stayed here again and the staff was just as wonderful, even placing us all, at our request, in the rooms facing the back rather than the street to cut down on the noise - in July, the window needs to be open. Underground noise was audible on the 3rd and 4th floors but not so we couldn't sleep. Shopping was just around the corner so we felt comfortable letting the youth go out on their own in groups of 3-4. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel for its warm and accommodating staff as well as its location. Rooms were plenty large enough even with 3 to a room, bed was comfortable, variety of firm to soft pillows.

This is a centrally located hotel, with no frills but OK. I had a room facing the back, where there is a fairly strong humming noise coming from a fan. The breakfast is OK, but not superb. It may not be perfect, but I thought overall the hotel was nice, clean and the staff was very friendly. Last, it is well located, specially if you want to take a bus for the airport (just near Buchanan station)
It is an excellent value for its price.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to post your positive comments on TripAdvisor. Like so many other reviewers, I am delighted you have noticed how clean our hotel is and friendly the staff are.

I am sorry to hear you were disturbed by noise from the adjacent building. Should we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to our hotel, please advise us of this and we will allocate a room elsewhere in the hotel for you.

I am pleased you found our hotel to be excellent value, and our central location certainly makes us a convenient base to explore the city or for an onward journey.

Thank you again, and I look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Main pluspoint for this hotel is it's location, which is very close to the main shopping area. Plenty of bars and restaurants close by, and next to the cinema too. Efficient check-in and check-out. Staff at breakfast were friendly. Hot breakfast was satisfying and plenty of it. It's a shame they don't have their own car park, £12 per day at the public car park opposite is expensive (Ramada Glasgow charge £6 per day), plus it means you have to lug all your bags over the road. Free wi-fi in rooms is good.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay with us. I am pleased you found the central location and our friendly staff to be our main plus points. While it is unfortunate we don't have a car park of our own, the deal we have with the car park across from us is very competitive, and guests are welcome to use the front of the hotel as a drop-off point to unload luggage.

I am also pleased you have commented on our new hot breakfast items - they are certainly proving very popular!

I do hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind regards,

Joanna Craig

We stayed overnight at the Express whilst visiting Glasgow to see a gig at Glasgow Concert Hall which is no more than 2 minutes from the lodge.

Check In was very efficient. One of the lifts were out of order, but that didnt prove to be a problem.

The room was quite small and had a smaller double bed than I had previously encountered in other Expresses. The room was very clean and well maintained.

The bed mattress was extremely soft and because of this neither of us had a good nights sleep in the room. You also get used to the underground vibrating through the hotels rooms at night.

Breakfast was continental, but I noticed there were hot options available too which would have been a bonus, unfortunately I never tried breakfast, to tired and was wanting to get home asap for a good nights sleep.

Location wise, it was great, right next to the concert hall, plenty of restaurants nearby.

I wouldnt recommend this hotel simpy because of the poor nights sleep.

Dear Review,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments about your stay with us. I am pleased you found our location to be ideal for your concert. While the beds in our rooms meet the Holiday Inn Express standard, I am truly sorry the mattress did not aid you in getting a good night's sleep. Sometimes the softness preference of a mattress is a personal thing and many other guests find our beds extremely comfortable.

I am also sorry to hear the underground caused you some disturbance in the night, but usually the service finishes around 11.30pm. Should we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to our hotel, please request a room on a higher floor, which should reduce the noise from the subway service.

Kind regards,

Joanna Craig
