“Stairs no lift”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

Close to central train station so close you can see the wall and glass roof make sure you wear some nightwear as they clean the glass roof.If the bed moves don't worry it the trains coming into the station and you can feel it sometimes. There are NO lifts in this hotel only stairs I was on the top floor room 438 so there are a lot of steps to get there. The weather in Glasgow was 25 and the room was baking hot there was a fan but did not help. The room had a slope so I felt I was going to roll out of the bed.The carpet fitters were in fitting new carpet to the stairs and lounge area ready for the commonwealth games. The choice for breakfast was very good Juice/fruit cocktail/cereals/yogurt/scottish cooked/ vegetarian/toast and a choice of hot drinks.I have used this hotel before and would use again just not a room on the top floor so if you have problems with stairs make sure you ask for a room on a lower floor.Shops and bars close by

Room Tip: problems with stairs ask for a room on the first floor

The hotel was very good for an overnight stay and provided a cooked breakfast in the morning, the room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The only negative was the fact that it did not have a lift, therefore if you are aged or infirm or had weighty luggage it may not be the hotel for you as all rooms are on the 1st floor or above with quite a few steps to each floor.

Room Tip: When booking ensure that you book a 1st floor room

It is so hard to write a review about a place that is not that great but IS good value. We stayed another night in Glasgow and paid 50% more per night than here...but do I wish I had paid more and stayed somewhere else? Well probably if I am honest.

Lets start with the good bits, top is price, it is good value, the location is quiet (save for a barking dog outside that shut up fairly soon). The bed was fine, the TV worked, the shower worked, everything worked.....

The staff that we saw were all very nice, helpful and friendly, it is not their fault they are let down by a fairly drab hotel.

OK, now to the bad stuff. We had a "Small Double" and really is was a single, but there was JUST room for a double bed if one side was against the wall, so that is what they did. The room had NO drawers, there was a wooden affair with shelves at the foot of the bed, with a small desk (and chair) but not a drawer in the place. Tea and coffee was the usual hotel stuff and fine.

The en-suite bathroom (shower room) had a very badly cracked tile on the floor...it will never mend itself, dig it out and fit another chaps. The shower worked but was all kinda hanging off the wall, and the grouting was scruffy. There was a bar of soap...and that was it, no shower gel stuff AT ALL.

Walking up to the room the place looks old, inside the rooms clearly there had been some up-dating going on.

We elected to have breakfast one day, it was served in a basement try room that was a bit dark and airless and at £4 it was OK, but on day two we went to Wetherspoons down the hill and got better for about the same cost.

Walking up the stairs from the "dining room" you are confronted at the top by an ironing board....says it all really.

Would I stay again? No. Should you go there? Well it is totally none threatening, it is as clean as it can be I guess, the room was serviced OK and the staff were nice. If cost is a major factor then go for it, but otherwise spend (quite a bit) more and go elsewhere.

FINALLY it is up a very very steep hill, and just when you think you have cracked it there are two flights of stairs to the hotel, and we were on the top floor, so two more flights up to out room....I was knackered!!!

Room Tip: Cannot offer anything other than the above, I think you get what you pay for. It was quiet on the to...

I can think of anything good to say about this hotel. Dirty, dusty, tired it looks like it hasn't had a facelift for about 35 years. The floors creak, most of them on the top floor where I was staying aren't even level, my room was boiling hot with only a fan to try and keep me cool. So you have a choice of boiling alive in your bed with the noisy fan or being slightly more cool with the window ajar and all the street noise flooding in. Either way there is no good night guarantee here. No lifts either and no one will help you with your luggage.

Breakfast was disgusting. I had to wait 10 minutes before the waitress spoke to me and my cooked order then arrived literally 30 seconds later. Bacon was horrible and I've no idea what the sausages were made if but they tasted like rubber. How hard is it yo make a decent fry up?

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!

Room Tip: Don't bother - find somewhere else

My husband and I have just returned from a overnight stay at this hotel was a little bit concerned seeing some of the reviews but I should not have worried the bedroom was clean tea coffee and even bottled water and biscuits breakfast was fine and staff were ok special mention to the lady who wad on night duty she was very nice and friendly. A real glasgow welcome we certainly would stay here again if we were back in our home town. Sandra John blackpool

Travelling with a littel trepidation having read the reviews -turned out I had no need to worry at all. Excellent location literally a minute from Glasgow Central station. The doorway was being painted when I arrived but not a problem at all. Immediately acknowledged by the staff on reception who were very friendly and courteous and gave directions to my room. I booked a single room, very comfortable sleep, lovely bathroom and a nice bonus to have the full range of Freeview channels which is rarely the case these days.

I can see why people might think it is a bit of a maze, but I managed to find my room easy enough even after returning from a few beers. Admittedly I did miss breakfast (because of said beers and choosing to stay in bed!) so it would be nice if it was served a little later than 9am, but that's my own lazy fault!

I reserevd my room less than a week before travelling and was able to cancel up until the day before if necessary for no charge and it cost only £39 for the lot so no grumbles at all from me!
