“Good central location”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

I booked this hotel because of its location. All of the places I wanted to visit where no more than 10 minutes walk away. Theatre, pubs, bus station, railway station all very close and convenient. The hotel looks a little dated but the reception is clean and tidy and the staff very helpful. We stayed in room 136 which is facing the back of the hotel so we were not affected by road noise or pubs kicking out. However, we did have a marvellous view of a row of metal boxes (machinery of some description) but we sorted that by closing the curtains. The room is a decent size and is kept to a high standard and the bathroom looked as if it had just been renovated as it was spotless. Breakfast is of the usual full English to cold meats, pastries, cereal and fruit. Waitresses ran the dining room with efficiency and nothing was too much trouble. All in all, a good hotel with polite staff.

Just home from a night staying at the Holiday Inn Theatreland Glasgow. Fantastic location in the city centre, right next to the bus station and all the shops. We had room 433 which was a really good size room and very clean indeed - can not fault the room other than we were facing a very busy road opposite the cinema and I didn't get any sleep until about 5am when things eventually got a bit quieter outside ( people shouting, constant traffic, buses etc). It was a saturday night so maybe that's just part of the parcel staying in city centre but you could hear everything so loud as if you had the window open (which it was not as we both checked!). If there were better glazing/sound proofing this Hotel would get 10/10 from me. The staff on reception / check in were very good and friendly - we were checked in quickly, politely and no fuss by a nice guy.

We had breakfast which was good - you can help yourself so have as much or little as you like, all the hot breakfast was cooked well and being replaced/topped up efficiently. Nice coffee, toaster very slow though! All in all I really like this hotel and would stay again, but I would ask for a room that does not face the main road, or perhaps the hotel could supply disposable ear plugs for guests staying on the noisy side of the building!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not on the mail road (opposite the cinema) or you will hear noise all night i...

Dear reviewer,

Thank you for your recent review of the hotel. I was delighted to read that you really enjoyed your stay and if not from the noise issues you experienced, you would rate us 10/10!

We are currently working on getting secondary glazing installed throughout the hotel over the next few months, this will greatly improve the soundproofing.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Glasgow on your return.

I've stayed in a number of hotels in Glasgow, and this one is by far in top 5. The rooms are not as spacious compared to some other bigger hotels, but the decor, furniture, and rooms overall are very clean, and kept well maintained. The big nuisance is that you have to pay extra for internet. What the...? I can't remember the last time a hotel asked me to pay extra for it. The staff at the breakfast were not the friendliest, and I wouldn't return for breakfast there. The food itself was okay, but for some reason staff in the UK do not understand customer service, and believe you're there for them. So This is why I avoid interacting with staff in the UK, but have to say the reception staff here were surprisingly very pleasant, welcoming and helpful. I am reluctant to give five, but comparing with other hotels in Glasgow, i think it deserves it. The bathroom was new and clean.

Room Tip: I stayed on a third floor (level four for US travellers) and my window faced the street. It was sur...

A great hotel and extremely upmarket for being a holiday inn. Staff were so nice and an upgrade was cheap. H8ghly recommended, very comfortable rooms and even though it was next to a main city centre road there was no issue with noise. The drink at the bar was slightly expensive but worth it for the atmosphere.

There are some mixed reviews about this hotel so I was worried about staying. The check in was quick and friendly and the rooms, although a little dated, are clean and comfortable. The bathrooms look new and the showers are powerful. I stayed on business and was impressed by the location - everything is a stones throw from the hotel. The only negative was the room service - bland and overpriced. I would defiantly stay again. It's everything I'm looking for while working away; great location, clean and super comfy beds, simple yet cosy rooms, good shower and fluffy towels.

Pros
Good location for Royal Concert Hall in particular.
Night duty manager who checked us in was very welcoming.
Housekeeping staff friendly and efficient; rooms are very clean.
Room and bathroom were small but sufficient.

Cons
Smallest double bed I've encountered in a while; also the softest. Maybe some people enjoy a tiny bed made out of marshmallow but I'm not too keen!
Noise is a real issue here. The hotel is on a major junction - fine, I understand that, but have stayed in other more central hotels that are better soundproofed. We had a room on the top floor at the back and still heard a fair amount of street/traffic noise.
No hot water at all one morning - the boiler had conked out. These things happen but staff didn't deal with it very well. No warning, no offer to make up for it, and worst of all no apology on enquiring at front desk. 'Yes, we are aware of the problem,' is not good enough and one of the young women on reception was actively rude, which I found surprising and out of character for the hotel as a whole.

Overall we enjoyed our weekend but that was more in spite of the hotel than because of it. There are better options in Glasgow; this Holiday Inn is ok and many of the staff are keen to offer a good service but it is overpriced for what it offers.

Thank you for your recent review of the hotel.

It was great to read that you found the hotel very clean and overall the service was friendly and welcoming.

I am sorry that the mattress was not to your preference. We are currently working on getting secondary glazing installed to help with our soundproofing. We did have an error with our boiler on that particular morning and I do apologise that you felt this was not handled well.

I do hope that you try the hotel again and look forward to welcoming you back.

Staff are very friendly but rooms are very small and can be noisy if you get the wrong one. I was on the 4th floor which might have been good for traffic but unfortunately being above the kitchen extraction fans was like trying to get to sleep and being woken up by a jet engine. One of the lifts is out of order which can mean an added wait for lifts.

Location is okay. I didn't use the car park opposite but rather one about 5 minutes away (q-park on Bath St) which was closer to my client.

Room Tip: Might be best to have a room on the road side of the building.

Dear reviewer,

Thank you for your recent review of the hotel.

I was sorry to read that your sleep was disrupted by kitchen fans. All our rooms are double glazed and we are looking into getting secondary glazing installed throughout the hotel shortly, this will greatly increase the soundproofing in the bedrooms.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
