“Just okay.”
Reviewed 30 November 2013

Booked this hotel as a convenience, close to the Hydro and a recent gig. Location is the best bit about this hotel & it being easy to find. Room was okay but could have done with a lick of paint. Bar area fine just not big enough. Breakfast was a big disappointment, it was very busy when we went down & the staff were rushed off their feet, tables needing cleared, crockery needing replenished & food needing stocked up. Don't think I would stay here again.

Convenient location for the SECC, 15 minutes walk to the cinema and 20 minutes into town. I stayed here for 6 nights with work. The bed was very comfy and I had 6 good nights sleep. Breakfast was buffet style with the occasional wait for a refill of eggs. However it was tasty and filling. The heating in the room worked really well as did the shower, overall very impressed.

We booked an overnight stay due to the convenience for the Hydro, where we were attending a gig. First problem was the very poor signposting to the hotel car park, which meant we drove twice round the one way system before we found the entrance. The room had a disabled friendly "wet-room", but the large window had been left fully open on a cold, wet November night. As a result the bedroom was freezing. We then discovered that the very inadequate radiator turned off automatically when we left the room, which meant that when we returned after the gig, it was still freezing. Further problem with the wet-room when we had showers - there was no enclosure - was that the floor was not laid correctly, so instead of draining away, the water gathered in a large, persistent puddle in the middle of the room. After a cold night, we went for breakfast, and found that the cooked breakfast buffet was both overcooked and cold. On a positive side, staff were friendly and helpful, but otherwise this was a disappointing experience.

This is a budget hotel charging slightly above budget prices. In its favour, it is very well located for the SECC and the Hydro. Parking is free for residents and travel to Glasgow City centre is convenient (two stops to Central Station). Rooms and service are basic. We did not eat in the restaurant as super food is available at the Rotunda, just yards away.

Room Tip: Room 19 is a small twin room and has a crack in the sink! Avoid.

We wanted somewhere close to the Armadillo at a good price and this is perfect. Room was warm and clean, bathroom was clean, bedding and towels were fresh.
We didn't eat there or have breakfast, we went to the Rotunda Chinese before the gig and had a great meal.
For concert goers it is perfect

Background: Our tour group spent an overnight here on a visit to Glasgow and as part of a two-week circle tour of the British Isles.

PROS: Location is OK. Though not quite in the city centre, it is near the docks and the Hydro Arena (if this is important to you). The sliding glass door at the entrance and the two elevators are big pluses for guests with lots of heavy luggage. The rooms are clean and moderately large. There are the usual perks: TV, A/C, heater, in-suite coffee and free WiFi. The breakfast is complimentary and served buffet-style.

CONS: The room did not have a fridge or in-suite safe. The carpet was old, dated, fuzzy and dirty. And there were these weird shower controls. Loud truck traffic was frequent at night. Although the WiFi was free, you need to register and leave an e-mail address first, which I find annoying. Most importantly, the dining room is too small to hold large groups. Because this place is a staple among tour groups which happen to have the same itinerary and schedule, you can just imagine the utter mayhem it creates when a couple of hundred guests descend on a dining room designed to hold only several dozen seats! As it turned out, we had to be waitlisted for breakfast seats when our coach was already loading our luggage.

Verdict: This establishment was seemingly designed for high turnover, budget tour groups and is apparently run that way. Not exactly good value for what you get. I would not necessarily discourage you from choosing this place, just lower your expectations. And be prepared to compete with tour groups for dining seats. A coin toss for me. Grade B.

We paid very little for a wonderful hotel. Compare this to a Travelodge and this will win every single time - no question. Especially on price and for what you get!

Free unlimited wifi is a huge bonus here. The bar area is great, with the bar staying up until late, as long as people were in there (which we were having a great time!) The bar snacks were scrummy - especially the puddings!
The staff were very friendly and the rooms were extremely comfortable. A bath would have been nice in our room, but instead we had a huge shower which you can adjust the height and take off its holder (something I always like).
The breakfast was great with a lovely array of food and it being included in the overall price was excellent. (if you want a fry up though, I believe you pay around £3 more)

It's also ideally situated for a night out at the Clyde Auditorium with it only being just across the road.

Pay £90 at a Travelodge for rooms that are like prison cells? Or for just over £30, enjoy a great, comfortable stay and I would definitely come back.
