Ian made our trip go from really good to fantastic! His ability to be flexible with a group of sisters who would, and often did, change their minds sometimes from one stop to the next was awesome. We felt that he became a part of our group instead of just a tour guide. He was fun, funny, knowledgeable, entertaining and comfortable to be with. His ability to be flexible also made our trip exactly what he promised before we ever got there, all about us.

Half way thru our trip we took a couple days to ourselves and rented a car to explore a bit on our own. When Ian picked us back up at the huge car rental drop off the day after and found out that we had already covered the things he'd planned for us, it was not a big deal. He found several more options and again tailored the day around us.

He covered all the details!! If there was anything that he could do to make our trip more enjoyable, if he knew about it and could do it, it happened. From the little things like making sure everyone was actually in the photos, to ensuring we were all laughing when the 'flash' went put off, or picking up candy only sold in Europe at ASDA-MART's... To the the big things such as making sure we got to places on time, pointing out the important landmarks and bridges, finding places to exchange money and many more on both ends of the spectrum to numerous to list.

He made his country come alive by showing us its beauty and telling us his stories. When we were with him he let us know that it was his job to worry and ours to have fun. It was a fantastic trip one we will never forget! The only regret we have is that we didn't let him handle all the arrangements from the beginning and then left it up to him, which would have insured that we saw and experienced all the best. I highly recommend Ian and Stravaigin-Scotland.com tours for a very fun and worry/stress free vacation. We hope to return some day to Scotland and when we do we will definitely book with Ian. Thank you Ian for being a great part of our trip and making those parts some of the best!! Until next we meet :-)

We had a great trip in Scotland, largely due to Ian. He picked us up at the airport & customized out trip to our specific interests. There were 4 of us so our interests were varied but he managed to integrate all of our interests in a way that allowed us all enjoy the trip. He was even able to point out a few bridges for us (inside joke). All in all it was a fabulous trip & I'd recommend Ian & Stravaigin Tours for anyone.

I contacted Ian about 5 weeks before we were hoping to take this trip; within 3 days and a few conversations Ian sent us an itinerary for our tour of Scotland. This to fit between some already planned bookings we had in Edinburgh and London. Our itinerary was detailed but extremely flexible every step of the way - this is the reason we wanted to book a private tour and it couldn't have worked out better! Ian picked us up promptly as scheduled and went on to win over my daughters (ages 15 and ~17) no holds barred! Ian was willing to take us about for as long a day as we wanted and had no problems at all with our wanting to explore a hidden river or meander about the woods. He even took us down by the fishing boats in Oban to catch the otters searching for dinner after dark - success!

So what did we do....

Loch Lomond, Inverary Castle, Dunadd Fort, Kilmartin Glen, Castle Stalker, the Isle's of Mull, Staffa and Iona (Fingal's cave is not to be missed!!), St Conan's Kirk, Glencoe, Glenfinnan Monument and viaduct, Incredible tour of the Isle of Skye (we'd love to go back and tackle a few of the Munro's!), Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle, Edradour distillery (another not to be missed!!), Ossians Hall, Stirling Castle and Wallace Monument....(more that I'm sure I missed).

Ian also took us to some out of the way sites like the brochs (Dun Trodden which turned out to be one of our favorite stops) and to find some friendly sheep (private joke with Ian - I'm sure he'll share it with you if you ask....Sheep!!). Ian, we also give you permission to share our wee hairy coo pie story with others - it's too good not to share!!!

Ian was personable, friendly, polite, fun, the adjectives go on and on. After dropping us off at the train station in Edinburgh for our trip to London, our daughters kept wishing Ian was with us for the reminder of our trip - pretty good endorsement if you ask me. Ian also kept in contact while we were in London, and forwarded a mates recommendation for a great pub stop down by the Globe Theatre (the Anchor if you're in the area....great atmosphere). Ian also recommended tea at Fortnum and Mason - another hit with our family.....

So to wrap it up - Ian is a great guide, wonderful company, easy conversationalist, extremely flexible and will bend over backwards to make your trip a success. Enjoy your trip with Ian - we certainly did!!!

We recently booked a tour with Ian Byres to tour the Highlands of Scotland. Ian showed up on time and was very prompt and courteous. He was very informative and flexible to our schedule. If we went to a site and were not interested he would find something we would like, even if it was not on the itinerary. If we showed an interest in something that was not listed he went out of his way to accommodate us. We toured the highlands, Isle of sky, and many other sites. He made it feel like we were old friends just catching up! His Van was very Clean and comfortable. And all accommodations he booked for us were stunning. I also have to add one more thing. I have always wanted to play golf in Scotland. Even though it is not part of his tour while we were doing a self tour in Edinburg a day prior to him picking us up. He was able to book a golf outing for me at the Royal Burgess golfing society. It was an amazing and a nice touch from him to make our trip more enjoyable all around. I have to say I will be Saving up to tour with him again! Thanks again for a wonderful trip.

On July 15, 2013, Ian Byers picked up our group of 6 from the Caribbean Princess for a day tour of the Glasgow area. We headed directly for the Highlands to see the incredible Loch Lomond and along the way learned the real story behind the lyrics of this well-known song. Ian's company name, Stravaigin, means to meander about and we did just that visiting Kilchurn castle on Loch Awe and on through the spectacular scenery of the Trossachs up to Inveraray where we had lunch. As we drove, Ian talked about the history of the places we traveled past and played beautiful Scottish music as well. Did I mention he wore his kilt with all its accessories and told us about each one? We asked countless questions and during this delightful day of conversation and much laughter, we got a feel for the people and history of Scotland. It was a marvelous day thanks to Ian!
