“Awful and terrible staff”
Reviewed 19 June 2014 via mobile

Went to the hydro last night to see dolly parton and was the worst venue I have ever been to. The acoustics are horrendous (probably because it's built like an American baseball ground with a roof). We paid a lot of money for tickets only to be sat behind two panes of glass and just behind a walkway so not only was our view ruined by the glass but also by the hundreds of latecomers/people who had to use the toilet every 5 minutes. Asked the woman working if we could move to other empty seats on the front of the walkway. She said no but she would see what else she had. She then approached us during coat of many colours (the song we most looked forward to) and aggressively told us we could stay where we are or move to the furthest back seats possible (which were cheaper than what we had paid). She was rude, aggressive and her attitude was terrible. She also ruined our favourite dolly song by standing in front of us and refusing to move for the whole song almost. Would much rather go to secc or armadillo who are at least honest about restricted views and don't ruin the experience with staff who have no social skills.

“Ok - but not an outstanding venue”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

Scotland's newest arena is impressive from the outside and is well located for both road and train networks. On the inside it is nothing special. The view is good from all around the arena and the seats are quite comfortable but those things are expected from a modern purpose built venue. There didnt seem to be enough toilets - the 3rd floor ladies was queued round the corner and up the stairs - and the bar service at the interval was very slow. An Ok venue but nothing to write home about.

“1st visit to Hydro sound terrible and it's like an oven.”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

Went to see Dolly Parton at the Hydro last night. The building is rough and ready and incomplete in so many ways. As other reviewers has said about the toilets not working some months ago this was the case again last night. There was no running water to flush toilets or to wash hands. Is this not a basic requirement. Dolly gave a great performance but it was totally lost by the poor sound in the venue. If the Hydro is to continue and be successful they must sort out the terrible sound issue and finish the building properly. Handrails, seating lights and signs etc. at present it is not a place to spend good money to listen to music and pay good money for and be so disappointed,

“Industrial Sized, Industrial Quality Venue”
Reviewed 18 June 2014 via mobile

First time visit to the Hydro for the Dolly Parton concert and from the outside it looks amazing. Inside, however, was an entirely different story with wall to wall dirty, heavily marked concrete everywhere. It looked like they'd run out of money and just hadn't been finished. The design inside is pretty much an American ballpark with a roof and a stage and, as a consequence, the sound quality is BAD!
It's tinny, echoes and on some high notes from Dolly was downright painful. Now this could be down to poor sound management by Dolly's own team but I think that it's more likely that they were doing the best they could with that venue. Certainly, based upon the very poor internal design and finish of the Hydro itself along with the sound quality I couldn't recommend it at all and won't be going back.
