This is an old building which has been sympathetically modernised to a suitable standard. We were greated by a helpful receptionist who allocated us a front bedroom with a superb king size bed which was really comfortable. The ensuite was fine - not palacial, but we were quite happy with the standard. The breakfast was self-service and ran from 7-9am - but dont be late, they dont hang around for straglers!!!

Room Tip: Ask for room 6 at the front! can be noisy on Monday nights with students from the local'Viper...

Spent a couple of nights here recently and would recommend as a quick stop. Friendly reception staff, but chap doing breakfast seemed to be fed up, sighing loudly as he cleared tables
. I went into breakfast the first morning and couldn't eat as the atmosphere was so heavy you could cut it with a knife! All 4 customers were miserable and as each had a table to themselves, I had to choose who to sit opposite (it's organised so that there are 4 tables in a row along the wall). As soon as a table became empty I moved to it, as I was getting scowled at by the inhabitant I'd chosen to sit with...
My few days there were drab and colourless, although the room was warm and comfy enough, there was an aura of isolation and drabness that I only find in Glasgow. Maybe it's the kind of buildings they have there.
Talking of which...please take care on the many narrow steps leading to the Belgrave Terrace, as the autumn leaves were very slippery. The hotel has better steps but even those are dodgy if you don't take care.
Also, I just didn't sleep as the traffic felt like it was coming through the room, it's such a busy road. that might just be my sensitivity to noise I don't usually hear though!
The photos on the website don't really convey the reality.

The Belgrave is a great place to stay, but..... the rooms are small and basic but then what are you looking for? If it's a base and somewhere to sleep it's great, if it's somewhere to chill out then it's not the place for you. Every room has a TV with Freeview and a kettle. The en suite is quite small but fine. Breakfast is a buffet where you can have as much or as little as you like and there is a large choice from full cooked to toast and lots of cereals. There is always a friendly welcome every year I have been, I'll be heading back again next year!
There is free Wi-Fi and they have put a computer in every room although these have been abused and there are all sorts of viruses and stuff on them, I always just take the laptop and hook in no bother. Beds are comfy and towels changed every day.
For the money it's great, only 5 mins walk from the subway and 20 seconds from the bus-stop!

What a DUMP ... Cramped little room that was in dire need of decorating. Paint falling off walls, shelves peeling. Carpet hadnt been hoovered in months and the shower urgh would never have used it in a month of Sundays, it was filthy black. But the worst was the blocked sink with cigarette butts bubbling up as the water tried to escape past them. Makes me wonder if they cleaned the sink after the last guests ......

First, the car park was difficult to find from the directions given; The final "second left" was a very narrow back lane that could be (and was) easily missed. The front door was locked when I arrived and eventually a pleasant enough woman appeared and opened it. At the tiny checkin window the next two surprises: notices informed me that the promised free internet access was not available and that credit cards would not be accepted. On arrival in my room I found that the TV did not work, there was no waste bin in the room or the bathroom and there was no soap, shampoo or shower gel, only a small handwash container by the washbasin. The room and bed were otherwise adequate. Breakfast was served in a small room at the back with a view from my table into a rather tatty-looking lean-to combination of kitchen, laundry room and store-room. The sausages appeared to consist mainly of sawdust and the bacon of cardboard, but the eggs were relatively freshly fried. There was one taciturn male member of staff on duty for both breakfast and checkout. He informed me that the credit card machine was not working because of "a problem with the internet", but when I informed him that a credit card was the only means of payment I had he muttered "I'll go and ask". On his return he took my credit card and put it into the machine which was working perfectly well! what was going on here? Did th management have some reason for wanting guests to pay cash? I booked a room here because the hotel I usually use in the West End of Glasgow was fully booked and the cost of a room was similar. I will not make that mistake again.
