“Fantastic Long Term Stay”
Reviewed 22 July 2014 via mobile

This hotel was fantastic, the reception staff could not have been more helpful, friendly and obliging. The rooms ( we stayed in two) were very comfortable with high king size beds, air con, great showers and large tvs with various ports for connecting laptops etc. towels are clean and fluffy and hair dryers are provided in front of well lit make up mirrors . A chaise means you don't have to sit on the beds all the time. One room had a fantastic view of the Clyde, hydro and SECC. The restaurant was very good for the dinner and breakfast meal deal- we did this twice and enjoyed everything. The restaurant is beautifully decorated for a premier inn. There are also vending machines in the lobby if you just want breakfast bars/ water etc. car parking is free and easy to get a space. On top of this the cleaning staff do a brilliant job- the place is spotless!

Situated on the banks of the river Clyde, the location of this brand new Premier Inn is something of a double-edged sword. It's within walking distance of the Science Centre, the SECC and the Riverside museum, although at the time of writing most the Riverside was cordoned off due to the baton relay for the Commonwealth games. Shops and restaurants are situated 10-15 minutes walk away in nearby Govan, yet there is nothing situated any closer e.g. newsagents, convenience store, which to be honest was something of a let-down. It just goes to prove that location isn't always everything, rather it's local shops and services that count as well.

The ambience of the hotel is fresh and welcoming with open-plan reception area and vending machines selling chilled drinks and snacks. The seemingly ubiquitous 'Thyme' restaurant/bar is a prominent feature (with a well-known brand of 'corporate-coffee' on tap). The food and drink is good but in my opinion rather over-priced - I tried the meal-deal; evening meal was good, breakfast was especially so (despite an issue with card payments).

I have to say one of the things that I found really engaging was the display boards in the lobby/reception area charting the history of the Riverside to date; as I've mentioned in previous reviews of other Premier Inns this type of local and regional flavour is often sadly lacking, here it was done brilliantly. Maps and information leaflets were all really useful and staff were always accessible and amenable.

I had a room on the 4th floor and was fortunate to have an even number with an attractive view of the Clyde. The other half of the rooms (generally those with odd numbers) had much less attractive views of a car-park and a construction site with a busy main road bisecting them. Rooms were smart and elegant, beautifully furnished with large flat-screen TVs. Unfortunately Internet access was almost non-existent - I was lucky if I could manage to check e-mails daily, even with 3G. Only half an hour of free Wi-FI per day really lets this chain down in my opinion...If they were to give their customers free Wi-Fi then I would probably be inclined to book more regularly (£3 per day is frankly taking the rise). Issues with the heating/air-conditioning meant that I couldn't regulate the temperature exactly how I wanted and being awoken at 6am on the day of departure by guests directly above me took the shine off an otherwise very good stay.

This is potentially a flagship hotel for this chain and it's reputation is clearly burgeoning, however, there are still significant areas that let it down quite badly. Both business and leisure travellers can afford to be discerning and this chain of hotels needs to recognise and appreciate this. Despite the negatives I enjoyed the couple of days I spent here and I hope to be back again soon.

Brand new Premier Inn in Glasgow. Stayed here on Sunday night after meeting friends for dinner. Very friendly staff especially Michelle who made us feel very welcome. Beautiful views of the River Clyde and within walking distance of the City Centre. (30 minutes along the river bank) Excellent freshly cooked breakfast served with a smile. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

Stopped on the way to a holiday.

Word of advice: the bath is in the shower and for the elderly or anyone with a physical difficulty or disability is quite high step into the bath. We requested an accessible room for our next study on the way back. Here's hoping it's honoured. The bed, as ever, was blissfully comfortable!

Brand new hotel and it felt like I was the first guest that had ever stayed in the room. The whole hotel was in excellent condition and the staff polite and friendly. Great restaurant and food. Lovely location next to the Quayside. Highly recommended.

A new Premier Inn opposite the SECC and The Hydro, Much quieter than the other Premier Inn's in Glasgow, as there's almost no traffic noise, 99% less than Charing Cross . The bar area is well designed with some booths that can be used for meetings , as well as being a quiet area to sit, overlooking the River. New beds are excellent, as is the modern tv's with up to date media inputs.

Room Tip: Facing the river is the Much preferred option, better views and no traffic noise
