Description: As one of the elder statesmen of Glasgow’s curry scene, Rawalpindi has been serving Indian favourites to a wide demographic since 1979. The restaurant itself has moved with the times; a recent facelift resulting in neutral tones that make for a warm and relaxing environment in the midst of Sauchiehall Street’s boisterous hubbub. The menu is full of familiar dishes from crisp pakora to a chicken puri that skillfully combines tomato tanginess with just the right hint of spices. The tandoori range includes monkfish and scallops, but for the more carnivorous, there’s a mixed grill of succulent chicken on the bone, chunky seikh kebab, battered king prawns and tender lamb tikka. The jangli murgh sees generous chicken chunks served in a creamy sauce bursting with garlic and fresh coriander. From a largely reliable range of sides, the more adventurous roghni naan, with cashew nuts and egg yolk, is worth exploring. This is a restaurant that specialises in time-honoured, traditional dishes, and with a generation’s worth of experience, it’s little wonder it does it so well.

A small buffet at lunch time and for less than £8, you can have the choice among a few starters, 3 or 4 main courses, but they will serve you the ice cream for desert. The food tastes fresh, which is more important than having a huge buffet and the food was prepared weeks ago

“Best Indian Restaurant I have ever been to in Glasgow!”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

Went last night as a family of 3. Outside there was a very nice man who offered us a flyer for 20% off flyer and specifically pointed out that it was for Al e Carte only. However, this was not a problem as the pre-theatre menu (which runs from 4-7, or there abouts) is 3 courses for £9.95. When our order was taken we were offered to add on poppadoms with spiced onions and a naan bread, which we did as the pre-theatre menu was such a great price! The food was absolutely amaziiing! Portion sizes fantatstic. Choice on menus great as well! The service was also out of this world. My 17 year old daughter fell in love with one of the very nice young waiters! The decor is lovely too. I would definitely return and will be asap. Such a busy, friendly atmosphere. 11/10.

“Last minute dinner”

We have visited this restaurant a few times on a whim as it's not far from work. Good meal with usual choice of dishes. Usually able to get a flyer which encourages us to go in. Good for popping into but probably wouldn't plan to go in advance.

“top notch ...but”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

Went here on a saturday evening after reading good reviews on tripadvisor. Was not dissapointed either by service or food, both were first class. The lamb tikka i had was particularly scrumtious while the prices are pretty competitive. The only thing id say against it was the 20% off flyer which was handed to us outside was not valid for the pre theatre menu, this was rather misleading and not pointed out till after our meal

“Best Food Ever”
Reviewed 30 January 2014

Went out with a pal to celebrate his 21st birthday. The service is top notch and such a high standard of food. We had 4 main courses, from poppodoms to Irish coffee. Very good value for money, they have loads of deals online and definitely recommend it to anyone.
