Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in our hired campervan. Found the chap at reception very pleasant and helpful. Toilet facilities were fab - big cubicle with toilet, sink and shower to yourself. Also has separate toilet cubicles if needed. Agree with a previous review that there are a lot of warning signs throughout the campsite, but it is quite a big site and I suppose that's how they keep it looking so good. Marked it down a bit because we would love to go back but as we usually camp under canvas, we have a dog so won't be allowed. Can also understand the reason for the dog ban in camping area (I.e. dogs barking at animals in forest during the night) but still disappointing.
Great site for posh caravanners with dogs though :)

We originally tried to book for a week in July but the lady emailed me back saying the pre bookable tent pitches were gone but to ring the day before and see if anything had become available. We were a little disappointed because we really wanted to stay here, so when we telephoned on the Saturday morning the extremely helpful and friendly gentleman told us there was a place available that night and we were over the moon. He also offered to stay later after the reception had closed to check us in as we were climbing Schiehallion and weren't sure what time we would get there.

The campsite itself is set in the forest and our pitch next to the river was beautiful. Going to sleep to the sounds of the river was so relaxing.

The facilities were great too, a laundry room in one building and showers and toilets in another at the other end of the site. My only complaint was the number of guests who left the showers and toilets in a state; there was rubbish left in the cubicles and unflushed toilets which weren't particularly nice. Yes, there are quite a few signs around asking you to mop the cubicles after use etc, but I didn't see a problem in that as it was for the comfort of other guests too.

We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful. We chatted for a while with one guy and his wife as she was originally from the area we live in and we had a chat about hiking etc. All the staff were knowledgeable about the area too, giving us recommendations for things to do.

This is definitely somewhere we would stay again.

This was our second visit to Rothiemurchus Campsite. The location is very convenient for walkers or cyclists with well marked trails and off-road cycle tracks into Aviemore. The site was busy and the single shower/toilet block was inadequate for the number of people using it so there were usually queues for the showers. With the high volume of people using them, the facilities quickly became dirty. They were located at the far end of the site so were not very convenient for the large numbers of people who were not parked close by. Last year there were additional toilet facilities close to the reception centre so we did not encounter any queues. Overall the site appeared to be lacking in care. There are no separate bins for recycling.

We were arriving late buthis was no problem for the guy who showed us an amazing place to camp and helped us with details on treks in the mountains and let us borrow his map. Very helpful and full of good things to do. Thank you.

If you are looking for a campsite where there is a warm welcome, friendly service and value for money then this site is definitely not for you. It's set in nice woodland for sure with access to lovely walks but the downside is the dreadful staff. We booked in February for a May visit. When we arrived the "gentleman" serving said we had been allocated a pitch which was not normally used. He advised that we were originally to be located by the front gate but because someone wanted to stay another night he took it upon himself to decide that that pitch wasn't for us! And so, the pitch we had (65 if anyone is unfortunate enough to be allocated it) was barely enough room for a motorhome, we looked immediately into the motorhome next to us and the electric hook up didn't work. The "gentleman" advised that we would have to hook up to the next pitch but we required a 25 metre cable. We didn't have one and so he decided to give us a lecture in the campsite about how the Caravan Club would frown on us as all motorhomes should carry a long cable! We then got "told off" for walking through a woodland which he felt was an area of regeneration, told us where to take the dog for a walk using language like "can't you remember where I showed you on the map" and instructed us to take the dog for a walk in an area marked "no dogs"! We spoke to our motorhome neighbours who had also been "told off" for a couple of things all of which were incredibly petty. Frankly, this gentleman spoiled our stay and can fully relate to the experience of other negative reviews of this site. However, if you do happen to get bored on the site you can play a game called 'count the signs'! There's restrictions everywhere which illustrates how unfriendly this place is. There's even a sign in the toilet block indicating that you cannot leave before 9am in the morning! #Stalig41! Do not stay here unless you have too is my message (unless the staff change soon). We had used a campsite in Arisaig (Camusdarach) which had a lovely friendly welcome and hospitality second to none.

Great location in beautiful native woodland a few miles outside Aviemore. Great walking and cycling from the campsite in all directions and very good facilities too. Only marked it down slightly as I thought it was quite expensive. We'll be back though.

Stayed here in our motorhome in March 2014. Large variation of trees and streams with a very clean and well mainained campsite with everything on your doorstep. So good we went from 1 night to an extended 3 night stay.

Well worth a visit.
