“not bad for the price”
Reviewed 2 April 2011

it was fairly good considering we paid £50 a night for a twin room with breakfast, but it wasn't as stunning as most of the reviews suggest. Little things like the shower being a dribble, the heating not always working, beds not being made properly, and the wifi often failing took the shine off a bit. However the staff were nice and it did the job. They even kindly agreed to make our breakfast half an hour early one morning so we didn't miss our train. The evening menu looked overpriced seen as everything is a starter, but the portions turned out to be bigger than expected so it's worth checking out. Plus you get 10% off if you're a guest. Location's pretty good - it's a 10-15 min walk from Aviemore train station and even closer to one of the bus stops for Cairngorm Mtn (tip: you can get the mountain bus from outside the police station; you don't have to go all the way to the train station area).

Stayed in this hotel for a weekend, in a superior double room.
Room itself was spacious and spotlessly clean.
Food in restaurant was outstanding.
Only down side was the lack of a hotel lounge in the evening, but knew this before booking - hotel was locked up by 2230 (we had keys to get in, obviously) - not a problem as there's plenty to do round about.

I must say after reading the reviews that this hotel had got on this site i was slightly dubious, however after staying here i would say there is a hell of negative people that write these reports. Extremely clean, nicely decorated modern and spacious rooms (i myself am a bit of a clean freak). The staff fell over themselves to help you, Frazier if you read this really they are such an asset to you, it is a long time i have been somewhere were all the staff are as good as they are here. Fantastic location.
We really could not have asked for anything more, well maybe a hook on the bathroom door...lol. Honestly if you read this do support this small business they will not let you down. Thankyou once again and we will see you soon!

Booked two nights at height of ski season for a weekends boarding. Would recommend highly for this. Room was small and very basic but the bed was comfy, nice percale bedlinnen, wee flat screen and tea and coffee. Bathroom again spotless, gd shower and nice deep bath with plenty of toasty hot water.
Dining was very good, nice restaurant and everyone we met was so lovely. We had a lovely weekend and I would definatly stay for next years boarding weekend. Thanks guys!!

I visit their restaurant in Leith (Edinburgh) often so when I was planning a trip to Aviemore this Winter and heard that they'd opened a new restaurant and hotel up there I thought I'd give it a go. It turns out that that's where the proprietors come from and that would explain the familiar welcome and excellent hospitality that you get the minute you walk in.... You feel like you've been there before. It seems a very recent refurb' with either a bar at front (with live local music some nights) or a nice quiet restaurant /dining room through the back [sporting my favourites from the Edinburgh menu]. The rooms are nice and newly done too and very fresh looking. But above all it's the service that I received during my stay that'll guarantee my return. Many thanks. A.

We stayed here for one night as part of a realxing break. Upon arrival we were greeted by Fraser, the owner, who showed us to our room. We had a huge room with a king size bed and a large en suite bathroom. We could not fault it. In the evening we dined in the restaurant. The menu was fantastic. It consists of small portions of a variety of different cusines, eg. mini fish and chips, turkish kebab, fajitas. We ordered 4 different dishes between the two of us and were stuffed after it! Highly reccommend the Scallops and the duck spring rolls were amazing! After dinner we ventured into the biz of Aviemore and spent most of the night in a pub called Cafe Mambo. Due to the late night and copious amounts of alcohol we could not appreciate the breakfast in the morning as we should have. It was a fantastic full cooked breakfast, just sorry I couldnt do it justice. Highly recommended and we hope to return! A special thanks to Fraser who looked after us very well! We will definately visit the Edinburgh restaurant soon!

We stayed in the International Starter Hotel for four nights which included our wedding reception. The level of friendliness and help from Fraser and his team were second to none. The food is varied in style and choice. They did feed us well at the wedding meal with good sized helpings and extra veg. We had sandwiches later which were hardly touched as everyone was still full from the meal and we are big eaters. We rented the hotel for one night and I got to see quite a lot of the rooms. They were of different size all with on suite, some with showers and bath’s some with just showers. This is reflected in the price of the rooms. All the rooms were clean and fresh. I would strongly recommend this hotel. If you are just passing through Aviemore you should go to the restaurant for a meal
