We've been a few times now to the hide. There's only been one year where we saw nothing at all and that was down to the weather, where is was heavy rain and high winds. Just the luck of the draw. Every other time, including this last Oct 13 visit, we saw Pine Marten, Badger and Deer. Wonderful. Probably the only way to be lucky enough to see pine marten in the wild. Thoroughly recommend it.

We picked up a leaflet at the Grant Arms Hotel in Grantown-on-Spey, and discovered this evening dusk watch by accident. We booked and went with fingers crossed that we would see something.

What a delight, we arrived to find the hide was cosy, so we did not need hat, gloves etc. in fact I started to feel sleepy as we sat and waited for our woodland guests to arrive. Our first visitor was a small wood mouse, which got the cameras clicking, then about an hour or so latr in came badger no 1, I'd never seen a live badger so found this very exciting, then No.2, 3 then 4 they kept us entertained for quite some time. Our next visitors were some Red Deer a fleeting glimpse as around 6 or 7 came into view they didn't stop but moved slowly in and out of the lighted area.

Then for the next highlight of the evening and what we had hoped against hope we would see a Pine Martin, a beautiful sleek and cute specimen, who stayed for around 6 minutes.

There is no more to be said, a brilliant evening which on our next visit to this area will be repeated for sure.

Thanks to all who made this possible.

Thank retselm

Had a great time at the hide, very knowledgeable guide John. Couldn't believe how close the animals came, arrived at the site and spotted a group of red deer eating, once inside the hide it became even more impressive showing four televisions linked to four night cameras placed out in the darkness on the paths, giving us plenty of time to get to the best position to watch the animals. Then the badgers came, then the main event, a Pine Marten. I had a great time.
Suggestion: take a very small tripod, the ones that stand about six inches high, you can fit that onto the table inside the hide by the window or take a bean bag to rest your camera on.

As part of our UK Holiday we booked some excursions with Speyside Wildlife - and they really delivered the goods! We started with Saturday evening in the Dusk Hide - great! Two Pine Martens came and stayed for over half an hour - only a few feet away and apparently oblivious to the 6 people in the hide photographing away. After they left, 3 badgers arrived. On Saturday we spent the day in the Caledonian Pine Forest with John Picton (who was also in charge of the Dusk Hide). He is very knowledgeable and good company - and particularly good at finding the birds we particularly wanted to see - Crested Tits and Crossbills - and a lot of others.Sunday morning we spent on top of Cairngorm mountain, this time with John Gregson - another success, this time with Dotterels & Ptarmigan - another really memorable day, with another great guide. After lunch we went into Abernethy forest and had really good views of Crested Tits feeding young.
The price of the tours is very good value and we can thoroughly recommend the operation.
