Reviewed 2 August 2011

My wife and I spent 3 days at the hotel as part of holiday further north. In all this is about the 4th time we have stayed over the years. We are in our 60s and new from previous experience at this time of the year the hotel would be full of children, so cannot complain about that although at times challenging. Found the room to be of good size and very clean
and also found the staff, some of which were foreign to be excellent.
On going to the restaurant for dinner was amazed to find that we now had to pay extra for chips and veg.although the meal itself was nice. The breakfast was plentiful but there was a problem if you wanted toast. You had to wait in a large line to access one toaster and my wife gave up.
We overheard another guest commenting that the restaurant had the same menu for about a week which we found hard to believe. The following evening we went to the restaurant and guess what. There were only about 4 mains so not a lot of choice.
The next evening went to the Bistro which had a much better choice. Although it worked out dearer with the meal allowance it was worth it.
So Hilton please sort out the restaurant menu and more toasters for breakfast.
Your staff are to be congratulated.

Thank you for your comments on your recent stay at Hilton Coylumbridge. We regularly review the menus in both the Grant Room and the Bistro and your comments have been passed onto the Restaurant Manager. Our Grant Room will be closing in the coming weeks for a major refurbishment which is exciting for the hotel. We do hope that you will return to stay with us in the near future.

We stayed here last wkend for 2 nights with our 3 children aged 8, 4,1. We hada family suite whic hwas a double bedroom and seperate room with bunks and a trave lcot. the rooms were really nice and the bathroom looked new, Rooms very clean and good views. the only downside to them however was that they were extremely warm- the windows were open all the time but no air seemed to come in. I would STRONGLY advise on taking a fan with you as, as im aware theyr not availabel to hire. the swimming pool was great for kids- changing rooms a bit dated. the grant room restaurant was quite posh to formal for children the food seemed to be a bit on the posh side too. the kids buffet is a good idea though. Lots of things to keep kids entertained at hotel (swinning ,play park, fun house, trampolines and small ski slope) and also landmark only 7 miles away. Would defo go back but would have to take a large fan!

Although the hotel is geared to families, it does little to control the children running everywhere.

More importantly, there is not a lift and my senior parents, 10 year daughter and I were on the top floor - needless to say a bit of a challenge. Had I known this in advance, I would not have stayed here.

The restaurant staff was not well trained, I ordered the soup of the day which he said was Lentil Soup and received Leek Soup - the waiter did not know there was a difference.

Although it is situated in Cairngorms National Park with a tremendous amount of outdoor activity available, I would look for other accommodations if I returned.

Thank you for your comments on your stay at Hilton Coylumbridge. We are a family resort, but are not responsible for the actions of the children that stay with us, this falls to the parents/carers. Our hotel, which was built in the mid 1960's has no plans to install a lift. Although I cannot confirm which room type you occupied if this type had been available and requested for ground floor then we would have been more than happy to allocate this to you. The majority of our double Family Rooms are located on the ground floor and our Family Suites on the first and second floor.

Have to say Coylumbridge is a beautiful area, the hotel it self is a bit dated and needs a revamp in the areas, the dinning room in particular but was assured by a member of staff that the dinning room will be upgraded at some point soon better late than never!
Our room was ok and overall was satisfying but mabey a bit to warm at night for my liking.
The food in the Grant room food was ok mabey a bit pricy for what you get, very friendly staff but lookd a bit stressd, there appeard to be a large tour in but they handled it very well. We ate in the bistro on 2nd night very good, staff were superb have to mention a thank you to Cloe and Anna very friendly and my daughter was very entertaind with them.
The food was good very mutch enjoyd the fish and chips and it felt alot calmer in there than in the other resteraunt.
As for the bar thought was a bit pricy, around £3.50 for a tennents id happy pay that for a draft Peroni but tennents?! However i have to say the Bar staff were truely the pinacle of hosptality, very knowledgeable and approachable. Cillian and Kenny were very entertaining kept me very well informd about the whiskys they offerd and had a few Drams by the fire very nice way to end our wee trip.
All in all a very good trip lots for kids and good banter for adults just needs a boost out of the early 70's

The hotel is of a high standard with well kept facilities for adults and children. There are also lodges within the wooded grounds, which are beautiful. The food was excellent but the cost of wine and other drinks was high. There are many other interesting places to visit nearby. We had a weekend deal which made the price reasonable. Look out for Hilton offers!

Took our six year old grand-daughter here after 22 years when we took her mum and aunt....used hilton points and were upgraded to suitable room. Vedy helpful e-mail correspondence with hotel as Hilton's web site is no use in this area for British hotels. Family hotels - not for couples by themselves but great having a free two hour play time in evening to give tired grand-parents arest. Busy at breakfast but the breakfast is very good. Will be back next summer. could do with an elevator but porters helped with luggage on arrival and departure.
