“Poor for a Hilton”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2013

Positives: 1. great location in stunning part of Scotland
2. dog friendly
3. staff, generally were pleasant
Negatives: 1. arrived at hotel early (12.30), asked about early check-in, was told our room would not be ready till 3.00 (official checking in time). we went for a cycle round Loch Morlich to fill the time. when we returned at 3.40 we were told our room would not be ready till 4.00 with very little in the way of an apology.
2. possibly in the same wing of hotel as previous reviewer as i would agree with " overpowering stench of air fresheners in the corridors attempting to mask the damp"
3. general decor was very tired, especially in rooms; mouldy tiles, disabled support in bath coming away from the wall.
4. decent breakfast spoiled by not being kept hot enough.
5. we were on the 'prosecco' deal whereby they leave a free bottle of prosecco in your room as part of the deal, however, they had forgotten to leave the booze but had remembered to leave a bottle of water priced at £3.95!
6. generally the price of drinks was way over the top.
7. evening meals were only just better than average; if we had been staying any more than the two nights i think we'd have gone into town for a change.
To summarise, i thought that the special deal for which we paid £45/head dinner/b&b was reasonable. if i had paid the going rates, however, i would have been raging!!
oh, and 3 positives to 7 negatives is not good, especially for a Hilton.

Room Tip: i think our room selection was maybe limited due to us having our dog.

Thank you for your comments on your recent stay at Hilton Coylumbridge. With regard to check in I am sorry that your room was not ready upon arrival, but can assure you that it was not because you were travelling with your pet, the room type would have been as requested during your booking process. Please accept our apologies that you had a disappointing experience and do hope that you did eventually receive your bottle of Prosecco.

Stayed here from the 7th - 9th of November and would definitely return. It's not up to the same standard as other Hilton's but saying that, it is still excellent. Room was great, big enough and immaculate. We chose to go half board which had its good and bad points. Breakfast was top notch, it was a buffet with everything you can think of which was a perfect to start the day. The evening meal was also excellent but the menu was very small and if you're a fussy eater you won't have much to choose from. One problem with the evening meal was whatever you had to drink with your meal including soft drinks, you had to pay for afterwords which was leaving a lot of people complaining considering they had chosen to go half board. The bar is very nice with reasonable entertainment on most nights but the prices are extortionate! £15 for 2 125m cocktails nearly made me collapse but I politely asked the barman if I could have them in a tall glass which he done for the same price. You also get a very nice pint. You can get a complimentary 60 mins free WiFi in the bar if you ask at reception but it's £14.99 per day afterwords so use it wisely. It's ridiculous there is no free WiFi here as you don't get 3G etc in Aviemore. We went up the Cairngorms and fed the reindeer one morning which was excellent, it seems to get more enjoyable every year. You can book a trip along at the reindeer centre close to Loch Morlich. The mini golf at the fun house is a good way to kill some time if you get the urge to do something. There's so much to do and the hotel's in a great location, I would recommend it to anyone who likes the outdoors or is after a quiet few days away.

Hilton ought to be ashamed of this outpost. Firstly, don't be fooled that it's in Aviemore itself - it's a good 35 minute walk from the town, which they don't highlight on their website. If you're coming by train, you'll need to jump a cab. Don't bother asking for a map at reception so you can find your way back into town - they don't have any available.

What else? No lift access to the rooms in what turned out to be a rather musty wing, with the overpowering stench of air fresheners in the corridors attempting to mask the damp. Despite it being nearly 2014, free wifi is only available in the reception area, otherwise you have to pay extra. Sadly, reception isn't somewhere you want to sit too long - it's sticky and needs a good clean. Bottles of water in the room are priced at £3.95. 250ml glasses of wine are £11.50. Meals very average. Unusually for a hotel, I heard two other guests complaining - one about his 'inedible meal' and the other about being charged for the water on his bill, which he had thought was complimentary.

In fairness, there were a few good points: the beds are comfortable and the breakfast was fine. Reception ladies pleasant, if frustratingly under-staffed. And it's clearly very popular with families because of all the outdoor activities nearby.

But the final insult to injury? Spotting a £1 charitable donation had been added to the already over-priced bill. When queried, reception said it was for Hilton's work in the local area. When asked why they hadn't highlighted it, they said 'they don't have time to highlight it to all customers'. Yes, it's only £1, but the principle is important.

I have been visiting this hotel for years and se all the changes, all the operators and go. I rekkon that Hilton are about to go, as they did at the Palace Hotel in Isle of Man.

Sloppy service from un-motovatecstaff who really do not have a clue. Hotel needs a good clean and the restaurant is tired and menu dated with poor food. There are so many better around and not at this price. Conrad would be spinning in his grave if he thought his name was attatched to this nonsense, and must have stayed in many, many Hilton Hotels !

Stayed here for two nights and would definitely stay again although its not to the same standard as other hilton hotels I've stayed in.
The rooms were great two double beds, travel cot, desk, two chairs and a table plus wardrobe, two bedside tables and chest of drawers plenty of room and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are lots of amenities, there is a swimming pool, gym, costa coffee, indoor ski slope, crazy golf, outdoor kids area etc and a couple of places to eat. The location is great as well lots of outdoor space near by to explore and outdoor activites and you can see thousands of stars in the sky at night, but not too far away to get back onto the main road to travel further afield.
The negatives I ordered room service twice, once for breakfast and once for an evening meal and although the food was nice it was cold both times and when I'm paying an extra £9.95 for them to carry the breakfast up the least it could be is warm! It could also do with a bit of updating of decoration and fixtures and fittings to bring in inline with other hilton hotels and charging to use the wifi in the rooms is a bit excessive especially when you think that places like premier inns offer it for free and charge a lot less. But definitely no major problems with the hotel and I would stay here again

We stayed for 3 nights while visiting Aviemore and the mountains. The staff is young and extremely friendly; always with a smile and ready to help you. We had a Bed/Breakfast/Dinner package and before getting there we were a bit reluctant of the quality of the food served. However, the breakfast reveled to be excellent with lots of variety and dinner was always tasty. The room was properly cleaned and the bed was comfortable. We also noticed a washable mattress protection which is always a good sign of cleanliness (hopefully they wash it often). The location of the hotel is perfect for someone who has a car or who doesn't bother to take a 15mins walk to the town centre. In general, the hotel is not a typical Hilton hotel you find in a big city such as London, for instance, but it's quite ok if you wish to sleep tight in the middle of the Scottish mountains.

Very reasonable pricing, but NOT Hilton standard.

Food was ok, but the same menu for 5 nights was disappointing. Room was very tired, dreadful damp smell in the corridors, walls paper thin, and hotel full of geriatrics and infants. NOT ideal for a quiet week.

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor, no lifts to first or second floor!
