“Great as usual”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2013 via mobile

We had a lovely weekend here again.
Dinner, bed and breakfast for 2 nights at a fantastic price.
The buffet breakfast was brilliant as always and the dinner menu was quite varied and very tasty.
We enjoyed the pool and sauna and a few walks in the surrounding area and aviemore itself is a beautiful town.
The rooms are spacious and clean and all the staff are helpful and very pleasant.
We have been a few times before and will certainly return.

I have been going to coylumbridge for years. This was my first visit with our 18 month old daughter and at £84 per night dinner b&b for the 3 of us over a weekend what can you complain about. Yes the hotel could do with updating in certain areas but as it is up for sale i don't really see Hilton spending to much on it in the near future. All the staff were great especially the young girl at check in and the young girl in the bistro resturant, she had the patience of a saint keeping our little one occupied while we waited on our meal. As others have stated if you are a couple and looking to spend a queit weekend together this may not be the place for you, this hotel does not hide the fact that it is family oriantated and why should it , it's top drawer at what it does. We will be returning very soon.

This hotel is aimed at families yet pool is closed to children on a Saturday from 5 till 6.30. Crazy!! We had only checked in at 3 and of course it's the first thing the kids want to do. Dinner was average. Room was average. Mould in the bathroom. Only good thing was the breakfast which was fantastic. Probably won't be back at this hotel.

Thank you for your comments on your recent stay at Hilton Coylumbridge. Our pool does have an adult only period daily from 5pm - 6.30pm as we find the majority of families prefer to dine around this time.

We stayed at the hotel for the recent toddler break week.
First the positives:
Great for children with a huge playground, lots to do and great location. Breakfast buffet is amazing and makes everyone happy. Friendly staff who doesn't raise an eyebrow when your toddler has a massive tantrum in the middle of dinner. Food in the evening was good, the steak in particular was fantastic! For the evening service a special mention goes to waiter Ion (?), a very warm welcome and friendly face every evening
Family suite is big enough for a family with one or two (sleeping in bunk bed).
Woodshed bar is lovely with friendly staff and good, speedy service. Swimming pool is very good - kids area is very spacious and even with some older children on the slide it didn't feel crowded. Bonus is the nice warm water in the kids pool. Our 2 year old happily stayed there for an hour without getting cold.

Now for the areas requiring improvement.
Upon arrival in our room I found the hairbrush of a previous guest behind our bedroom door...so does that mean the room wasn't hoovered? I don't want to think too long about this.
The ceiling in our bedroom had a lot of dust on it that could have easily been cleaned off with the swipe of a duster.
The showercurtain was missing but thankfully could be delivered by room service within a couple of minutes.
One lunchtime I wanted to order a quick sandwich lunch at the lobby bar. I was told that I could order food only at noon (it was 11:45) - fine, i came back at 12:05. The bar wasn't staffed and it took me a while to find someone who felt responsible for taking the order (It felt a bit as if it was an inconvenience for them). 45 minutes and a very cranky toddler later we were just looking for someone to cancel our order when we were brought our soup, a wrap and a cheese sandwich. We complained about the delay but being very hungry ate the food. A couple of minutes later someone came over and offered a complimentary drink to make up for the delay but we needed to get our son to the room for his nap so declined.
While the dinner in the restaurant was good it would have been nice to see a change in the set menu halfway through...my guess is the majority of the guests this week stayed for the toddler break so a bit of variety in the choices of dinner wouldn't go amiss.
The Thai Lodge spa was closed for renovation until Friday (the last day of the stay)....seriously...? What better chance for a busy mum to be shown some appreciation during a holiday than having a spa treatment!? But no it wasn't mean to be....poor judgement by the management I'd like to think but then I am not a hotel manager and am happy to be told that it makes sense for them.

So overall, yes, we had a good trip, the bathroom and bed were clean (most importantly), our son had a great time and could roam freely so we'd probably return for another toddler break if we want to explore the area further. Could the hotel improve ...yes, definitely and they should if they want to make the most of families looking for a nice and relaxing stay.

Room Tip: Family suites are good and spacious

I stayed here on Saturday night with my young family and had a great time. Yes, the rooms are bit dated and in need of a bit of TLC and updating but they were clean and had all the facilities we needed for a night away.

There were lots of good points to the hotel and the lobby and restuarant were modern and looked good. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The swimming pool, although again needing a wee bit TLC was good fun and the kids enjoyed it.

The soft play area attached to the complex was good and reasonably priced as was the food in the diner.

I have read some comments slating the food in the main restuarant but I had no complaints and was very happy with the quality and selection of the fault - I really couldn't fault it. The breakfast the next again day was excellent - there was so much choice that I wish I had stayed another night just so I could try something else! It would be quicker to list what wasn't on the menu!

The price of drinks were high but while I don't agree that hotels price them so high, I have come to expect this. However, £2.50 for a 500ml bottle of water from the Bistro is very excessive.

If I am in the area again then I would stay in the hotel again, especially the rooms were refurbished.

We stayed here in October 2013 (half term for us but not for others). Having stayed at a so-called "budget" hotel on the way up to Aviemore to break up the journey, staying at the Hilton Hotel was something of a come-down!
Bad points- the rooms were dated and depressing (eg wood chip wall paper, peeling chrome in the bathroom and a weak, noisy shower) and not very sound-proof walls. Swimming pool -nothing like the glossy website photos. The changing rooms were dirty, even though we went in first thing in the morning. Lockers were dirty. Swimming pool itself was dated and run-down and needs renovating. Swimming pool fire doors were cracked and mouldy and the door through to the reception was smeared with fingerprints. Children's activities- the hotel advertises an "Outdoor Discover Centre" on site- dry ski slope, climbing wall and ice-rink etc- although if you check the small print, these are all for an additional charge. This area is also dirty and run down (see my attached pictures). Wi-Fi in rooms- I think this was about £12 for 24 hours, which is expensive compared to other places. There is free Wi-Fi in reception area but drinks (I feel) are overpriced ( about £11 for a glass of wine). Terrible lunch in the American Diner (had to peel a soggy serviette off the bottom of a jacket potato and beans)- again this was also expensive.
Ok points-Hotel restaurant-we ate in the hotel main restaurant for two evenings- same menu both nights and being vegetarian- it was very cheese orientated. The pasta dish was very bland and my partner had the same meal on both occasions (halloumi and sweet potato) and whilst it was ok, the portion on the second night was far less generous. Lots of choice at breakfast- but, again, it was nothing special, compared to other, less expensive, places.
Good points- the location, most of the staff were friendly, the hotel is generally quite clean (except for areas pointed out above), lots of families staying and no problems with children running wild- in fact it would have been nice to see a few running about as most were just quietly occupied on tablets/ipads in the reception area! Fun house-huge indoor play area- extra charge, of course, but the kids did enjoy it.
The main feeling I have about this hotel is that it is just not worth the money. If we were going to Aviemore again, we wouldn't stay here- or in any Hilton hotel anywhere,if this is the standard.

We have just returned from the Coylumbridge Hotel where my husband and I spent the weekend in a family room with our son, daughter and dog. I feel some of the reviews are a bit harsh. Yes, it is a bit dated but our room was clean, comfortable and had a pleasant view into the trees. We used the restaurant both nights of our stay and found the food to be excellent and the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast in the morning was as good as any Hilton I've stayed in - fantastic! There are a couple of negative points, firstly, although it is fantastic to be able to take your dog to the Coylumbridge Hotel, it would be lovely if they could allocate a small area where you could actually sit with your dog on it's lead and have a drink or a coffee. There are plenty of areas near reception with tiled floors where dog owners could join in the social side of Coylumbridge, currently, they can sit outside the Woodshed Bar with the smokers, not great in November! I am aware of the pet policy where pets can be left in the bedrooms but sometimes it would be nice to sit with your dog, mine is certainly better behaved than my children! Secondly, the price of wine in the restaurant. It was far too expensive, come on Hilton! I own a timeshare at Hilton Craigendarroch and have never paid such exorbitant prices for a bottle of red wine. We simply didn't buy any, instead we bought some at Tesco for £5 and drank it in our room, since we were stuck there anyway, being dog owners!
Would I go back? Yes, the positives definitely outway the negatives but Hilton, please note, you could actually make so much more money if you reduced your drinks prices.
