Hilton Coylumbridge Hotel
Ranked #5 of 11 Hotels in Aviemore
Reviewed 4 March 2014

I had been looking forward to staying here for years, had always stayed at the Macdonald resort but decided we would treat ourselves at Christmas and try the Hilton. We stayed the weekend of the 10th January, on a D, B&B apparent deal in a "deluxe" room and after travelling the world and staying in a enormous variety of accommodations, we were extremely disappointed to say the least.
I had checked trip advisor out before going and truthfully felt the posts complaining about the run down rooms with the damp and broken- looking skirting boards were maybe a bit fussy, but actually when we arrived it's one of the first things you notice!
The staff were all very polite and helpful, no issues here whatsoever, just the hotel.
The quilt covers had mascara stains on the top, the skirtings were damaged right round the room, the bed springs were poking right through the mattress and there was no softness or depth to the mattress at all! I had requested non- feather bedding due to asthma and had to strip the bed and ring requesting different bedding. The gentleman arrived quite promptly with this and and very kindly to be fair to the staff again.
The walls were so thin you could actually hear someone urinating next door-lovely!
We were obviously on the level where dogs are allowed and smoking permitted, and I am a dog lover who would've loved to have brought my dog but chose not to as expected to get a bit of a better room if its not dog friendly.
The room was like a box! I rang reception on our arrival to advise we were in the wrong room, we had booked a deluxe room...to be told this WAS the "deluxe" room! We are not at all fussy, having stayed in seriously rundown inns and motels/hostels in USA, Canada and Australasia, but to be told you're staying in a deluxe hilton room and to arrive to that...not good enough at all! Especially when the cost was £240, reasonable when you think its a deluxe room but a complete rip off for this hotel. We have stayed in various hiltons around the world, most recently in June in Mississippi, and the standard was impeccable!
The spa facilities at Aviemore were disgraceful- completely agree with previous posts here about how run down it is. The sauna was out of order, the jacuzzi was part of the cool pool, nothing really separated them and generally it was just in need of a good clean and revamp!
The meal we had on the first night was in the main restaurant and really disappointing, so the next day we asked to eat in the bar and thoroughly enjoyed it-yum! Again, can't fault the service and the food was delicious, proper nice bar grub and a great breakfast.
The WOODSHED bar next door is really worth a visit, really laid back and great staff!
On the whole, this hotel was extremely disappointing and we won't be rushing back for sure.
Since speaking to people on our return it appears there's 2 different ends to this hotel, the newer part and then where we were.
Tip: request a room to the left of reception desk when you arrive.

Booked very last minute to celebrate wedding anniversary, booked by telephone using Hilton Honours points, very efficient and quick process received a confirmation E-mail almost immediately. Arrived at the hotel 30 minutes drive from our house knowing that it was a family resort so not quite sure if it would the ideal place to spend our wedding anniversary, very quick and professional check-in with a trainee carrying out the process under supervision, upgraded room due to HH status very well received. Nice large clean and comfortable room, complimentary water, nibbles, internet and 2x £5 vouchers for use in the bar or restaurants. Booked to eat in the Inverdruie restaurant , nice environment, good service and great food at a reasonable price, well impressed. After dinner we returned to the bar where there was a singer who performed a wide range of covers to suit all tastes, yes there were a lot of families there including small children but they were doing what families should be doing "enjoying themselves". Drinks at the bar were reasonably priced and service was very good. good nights sleep, buffet breakfast was of a very good standard with plenty of choice. I would not hesitate to return to this hotel for a short break.

Room Tip: Register for Hilton Honours as they really do upgrade you if they can.

Stayed here for 3 nights dinner bed and breakfast, came with family so we had 3 rooms. Hotel was great couldn't fault it, so nice to be in a family friendly hotel were we felt at ease with our children. Plenty to do, the kids liked the play park as well as the soft play, and we used the pool daily. Don't miss out on the hotdogs and burgers at the wood shed bar at the weekends cooked to order very tasty , and the breakfast has everything you could want. Everyone had a great time

Fantastic healthy breakfasts, inventive tasty dinners, a quiet comfortable room, beautiful scenery, great walks and ski-ing nearby, a good pool, a friendly bar, helpful staff. What's not to like. And our Westie rated it 11/10 for being a top dog-friendly hotel!

This hotel was amazing. Food was yummy. Staff were helpful and friendly. The only down side was the times for adult only swimming ... it was between 5pm-6.30pm every evening. This meant we could not use the pool as much as we hoped.

Thank you for your comments on your recent stay at hilton Coylumbridge. The adult only swimming time has been in place for many years as as most families choose to dine around this time that we find that this works best for the majority of our guests.

With needing a stay In January, the winter offers were perfect at a great discount for a stay.

Having been before, I knew where it was, but the lighting in the car park could have been better, as I nearly didn't see the roundabout at the entrance in the dark.

The Reception was clean, welcoming and well staffed, and so was checked in swiftly. While I was on the second floor with no lift, the stairs were easy to climb and the room was easy to find.

On entering the room was well appointed; clean smelling and fresh and warm on a cold winter evening, with a spacious wardrobe and a clean bathroom to complete the room. The bed was clean and well made, and comfy too.

The main restaurant offered an appetising array of dishes, and generous sized portions, and service was swift and caring.

Evening entertainment was available, though maybe not to my taste.

Breakfast was a buffet service for everything, and although the food was delicious looking, the plates to use were not in an obvious place, so meant some searching before I could start picking.

Checkout was simple and swift, nothing remarkable to comment on though.

Room Tip: Despite what others say, the new wing is quiet nice rooms, but the views can be not as great in some...

We have been coming to this hotel for over 25 years and have seen many changes, some parts of the hotel are showing signs of age but the areas that have been updated are excellent.
The breakfast is really good with enough choice to suit everybody, the rooms are clean and tidy but our stay was spoilt by inconsiderate guests chatting in the corridor and banging room doors from 1.00 am to 3.00 am, not a fault of the hotel but perhaps the night staff could make more frequent checks.
This is a family orientated hotel in an excellent location for walking and visiting the Cairngorms, we love it and can't wait to come back.
