Steam Cottage is in a great location on the edge of Aviemore. Located in a quiet area, but with a chippy, pizza takeaway, bike hire and Costcutter just a few minutes walk away. The cottage is kept very clean, the double bed was very comfortable has you'll find everything you need, including wifi (although I had to hunt for the router to find the password). We were very impressed to find 2 mini bottles of wine waiting for us on arrival - a nice touch! Sandra the owner was also very helpful, allowing us to leave luggage in the shed as we were arriving early on the sleeper from London. What else can I say except this is one of the best holiday rentals we have ever booked. Highly recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to post such a great review. We are so pleased you had a good stay. Regarding the router the password should be on the corkboard in the kitchen and also in the information folder on the unit under the TV in the living room. I shall check and replace this information if necessary when I am in Aviemore next week. Thanks again and we hope to welcome you in the near future.

“Fantastic little cottage!”

We are just back from a weeks stay in Aviemore at Steam Cottage. It was a lovely little property. Spotlessly clean, in a nice quiet suburb, just outside of the main town. It had everything you could possibly need/want in a holiday cottage, even had champagne glasses.

It was nicely decorated with a lovely log burner in the living room. Even though the weather was pretty cold at times, the cottage was nice and cosy, especially after my hubby got the fire going. It would have been useful to maybe have some instructions about how to work the log burner though, as we do not have one, it took a bit of trial and error to get it going and staying alight. the first couple of nights were spent lighting and relighting the fire as my hubby did not know whether he should have had the vents open or closed to draw the fire, but he sussed it out in the end.
The bathroom towels were luxurious. I was quite surprised to see that they were from Asda as the thickness and quality were just great, very thick and fluffy.
We were in the double bedroom and I have to say, it was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in (even better than my own one at home!). My mother in law was in the twin bedroom and she said she slept very well.
There was a lovely large private garden which our dog enjoyed (although he was a bit worried when this big metal monster came puffing along the bottom of the garden every now and again, belching out steam and making strange sounds). I would imagine in the summer months it would be lovely sitting out there, although we enjoyed sitting in the conservatory for our meals and to play board games, felt almost as though we were in the garden!
All in all, I would definately recommend this cottage if you are looking for a "home from home".
There is a lovely place to walk the dog nearby as well which we did not find until our last day there. It is at the bottom of the Industrial estate just on the other side of the garden and it looks as though you could walk a fair distance on nice paths, but with woodland for the dog to run about in.

We have visited Aviemore on several occasions and we decided to visit only a few weeks before so booking was at short notice. Booked via visitscotland.com, then finalised payment / sorted details directly with owner, all very efficient.

Cottage is just what we needed for out 4 day visit, our son (10) especially liked dining in the conservatory so he could wave at the steam trains. The kitchen was extremely well specified with a washer / dryer (great for walkers), and loads of crockery / utensils.

Next time we go to Aviemore, we'll be checking availability.

“Fantastic base for active holiday”

We booked the cottage with plans to do some cycling and walking.
We were well pleased to find the cottage is adjacent to Cycle Route 7 allowing virtually all our cycling to be on dedicated cycle tracks with only a small amount on roads with traffic. We ended up out on the bikes for three of full days at the cottage, and out on foot 2 of the others.
Location wise the cottage is at the end of a cul de sac in a quiet residential area. There is a grocery shop only a few minutes walk away. The cottage is also fairly close to Aviemore centre, only about 10 minutes walk, either by the main road, or again via traffic free paths. This, coupled with some nice eateries, meant we didn't have to cook each night. However the cottage had a new kitchen fitted, with a full set of cooking utensils, so on those nights we stayed in we were able to prepare what we wanted.
For entertainment there was a digital TV and although we didn't use it, there was also a DVD player and iPod dock.
A large garden allowed us to sit out in the evening, while breakfast in the conservatory watching the Strathspey Highlander steam past is something we won't forget soon.
Definitely somewhere I would consider going to again!
