“Lodges were brilliant!”
Reviewed 7 October 2010

There was a group of 24 of us staying at the lodges for weekend. The were very clean, comfortable and up to date. We had an amazing weekend and never really left the lodges for long! Wouldn't hesitate to go back or recommend!

My wife and I decided to take a two day break and although we had reservations about Aviemore we thought as we had not been for many years there must be somewhere nice to stay.

I booked the 4 star MacDonald aviemore resort hotel.......bad decision.

The hotel is cheap. The reception area and roomaccess is like a hostel. The roms are nowhere near 4 star, there is no fridge or AC and the stand-in bath shower tiles were filthy with black mould and had never seen bleach in a long time.

The quality of the room doors and construction is very poor, it is like a cheap travel hotel standard at best and the was are made of plastrboard partitions.

The breakfast again was of cheap quality and poorly presented, the bread used is cash & carry quality.

We had booked in for 2 nights but imediately booked out the next morning. it will be another long time before I visit this place again.

We stayed for two nights on dinner bed and breakfast basis, we got a really good deal. There loads to do in Aviemore, the McDonald resort was nice, but probably more geared to those with kids. The food was really good, which I was quite surprised at and the service was good in the restaurant but lacked elsewhere. The nightlife was quiet - quite rightly so £12 for two drinks and I'm not talking glasses of moet! The bedrooms were very, very dated, I have stayed in nicer rooms at 3* hotels. Although the leisure facilities were excellent.

We arrived after an extremely long day of working and driving to spend a couple of leisurely days in the area before returning home. There was plenty of parking, the receptionist was very efficient. Our room was a 'luxury double' and absolutely lovely - spotlessly clean, quiet and with excellent facilities. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, the water was always hot, there were sufficient TV channels, plenty of tea and coffee and bathrobes were also provided.

After our first day out we returned to find the cleaner had left the room exactly as we had found it on arrival, with beverage supplies topped up and towels and bed linen all folded nicely and the bathroom was once again spotless.

Breakfasts were served in the self service restaurant and the choice of cereals and continental breakfast items was very wide-ranging. The cooked food was kept piping hot under heat lamps and refreshed every few minutes so there was always plenty for everyone. The food was delicious, the coffee was piping hot, toast was delivered within a couple of minutes of ordering and all the staff were polite, efficient and dressed smartly in clean uniforms.

Checking out was equally efficient and once again the reception staff were efficient and extremely polite. I couldn't fault this hotel at all and will most definitely be returning.

The highland resort comprises multiple facilities. We stayed in the Highland hotel which is (in Scottish standards) a four star hotel.

Arriving at the resort we were kind of shocked by the size of the area and the concrete exterior of the buildings. However, once we made our way to reception we were kind of overwhelmed by the warm and friendly welcome.

The room was perfectly ok but I'd rate it more at the upper end of three stars than awarding it four. However, the friendly, attentive and helpful staff deserve no less than five stars.

We were a bit disappointed about Aviemore and the surroundings; I would most likely recommend staying in other cities. However, if you want to go there and don't expect a luxury room, then the Aviemore Highland Hotel is definitely a hotel to consider.

We were staying at the Academy hotel which is the family hotel on the resort, we were there with our 2 sons ages 12 and 6. The hotel was nice and comfortable, rooms spotlessly clean and we didn't hear other guests although the hotel was full. There was plenty for children to do, the "fun factory" was both our boys' favourite. You can choose from a few different cafe's, restaurants. We ate at Giovanni's on all three nights, they do a kid's buffet which they can help themselves to with beautiful fresh pizzas pasta, healthy choices too. The staff there were lovely to us and our children. While there I made use of the spa while my husband and sons went for a swim at the resort indoor pool. They had a great time. The prices for treatments are excellent and the spa and leisure staff were really nice. We will all go back and I've recommended it to friends as an exellent family break in the U.K.
