The Hostel is quite basic, but extremely clean and well-run, with friendly and helpful staff.
We started off in a 'family room' which was extremely small and quite dark, with two sets of single bunks, which wasn't ideal really as we hoped to get a double bed and bunks for the kids. But after glimpsing another room that had a much brighter, big window and a double bunk we asked to move, as we were staying a whole week. They moved us upstairs to a front room with an amazing view, a double bunk and two single bunks, loads of space - but this one had no sink. (None of the rooms are en-suite). However, it was all so clean, with amazing mountain views, and the staff were so nice, that it didn;t really matter in the end.
The area is incredible beautifull with loads to do right from the doorstep - we climbed two mountains, rowed canoes, mountain-biked, and wandered round lochs, and beside burns. So peaceful and unspoilt.
Aviemore is a sweet town with plenty of facilities, and Loch Morlich right opposite the Lodge is stunning.More
