We were out for a drive and needed somewhere for afternoon tea. We decided to give the Slaters Arms a go, which was a mistake. The chap running the place was not friendly and proceeded to shove us menus as we walked in the door. Most of the tables had reserved signs on them but there were no takers for them whilst we were there - in fact, other than the two of us, there were only two other tables taken. We ordered coffees along with fruit scones. This took an age to arrive - probably about 15 minutes after having waited long enough to order in the first place. The coffee was actually very good (Bei & Nannini) but rest was awful. The scones were like bread rolls in consistency and seemed to have been heated in a microwave. The jam (we are guessing it was blackcurrant) looked dark black in colour and tasted revolting. What is more: there were several dogs running around the establishment (belonging to the owner) which was not hygienic, particularly as one of them was very smelly. Had we known there were dogs around, we would not have stayed. It was all very overpriced for what it was. Will not be back.
