We were out for a drive and needed somewhere for afternoon tea. We decided to give the Slaters Arms a go, which was a mistake. The chap running the place was not friendly and proceeded to shove us menus as we walked in the door. Most of the tables had reserved signs on them but there were no takers for them whilst we were there - in fact, other than the two of us, there were only two other tables taken. We ordered coffees along with fruit scones. This took an age to arrive - probably about 15 minutes after having waited long enough to order in the first place. The coffee was actually very good (Bei & Nannini) but rest was awful. The scones were like bread rolls in consistency and seemed to have been heated in a microwave. The jam (we are guessing it was blackcurrant) looked dark black in colour and tasted revolting. What is more: there were several dogs running around the establishment (belonging to the owner) which was not hygienic, particularly as one of them was very smelly. Had we known there were dogs around, we would not have stayed. It was all very overpriced for what it was. Will not be back.

Stayed in cannich for week only in slater arms twice, more money than they deserved. Never had food so can't comment but the owners oh dear, on walking thro the door no hello can I help you r u looking for food. One member of our family who did eat food complained he found something in his meal turns out it was actualy in the recipe but lady owner comes over hands on hips is there a problem? Yes your attitude is the biggest problem by far. Cannich and surrounding area is beautiful but a second pub is required if a friendly atmosphere/welcome is what u want. And the boys who put a lot of money in pool table were then asked to stop playing as staff were walking past with food.

Glen Affric is truly splendid, scenery, walks, golf, fishing, cycling, a terrific camping site at Cannich and so much more. The Slaters Arms on the other hand is most definitely not. Of the many places that I visited in the Highlands I found this pub to be the most unwelcoming of all. The dogs that roam freely in the bar are the friendliest thing about this place! The owners are in desperate need of personality transplants and should seriously consider enrolling on a course in hospitality.Alternatively they could start with the simple things like hello, thanks, nice to see you, have a nice day, goodbye and maybe once they've mastered the basics they could work on a smile. Relocating the office that currently has pride of place in the bar area may well be something worth considering too! I fail to see that anyone could be disappointed with this area of the magnificent Highlands just don't expect too much Scottish Cheer at this mediocre establishment.
