A visit to the north of Scotland had been on our wish list for a long time, with the Castle of Mey featuring strongly. Although the weather might have been better - visibility was not brilliant - the castle, and particularly its gardens, were well presented and very interesting. The guided tour of the castle was especially well conducted by a very well informed and friendly guide for whom no question was too much trouble. (She made the visit to the castle itself for us, notwithstanding that the detail of royal life is not a topic of great interest for us). The castle gardens are lovely: although at their best in June & July, even in September they were colourful with a unique beauty. Undoubtedly, this is a must if you are going to the north of Scotland. About a minimum of 4 hours is needed to appreciate the castle and its grounds: there is a good restaurant and shop. Undoubtedly, this is a must if you are going to the north of Scotland: strongly recommended

“Really enjoyed this. What a gem!”

An absolute find. Until we found it whilst driving from Thurso to John a Groats we had never heard of it. A real insight into the Queen Mothers life. Was great to speak to staff who actually knew her and served her. Some modernisation has been done since her death ie the café and shop but thought has been given to it and you feel she would have liked what has been done. Well worth a visit

Mey Castle, Gardens and Farm give you an insight to bygone and present days. The café serves an excellent selection of food. The Mey Gift Shop has a fair selection of goods produced for the Castle shop also includes other suppliers, Both Café and Gift Shop is a wee bit expencive

“Although a castle in title it was a lovely home with a lot of character”

Well worth a visit, found the staff to be very approachable and knowledgable. Some staff had been there since the Queen Mother lived there so they had some great little stories. George in one of the out buildings was an absolute gem. Thank you.
