A visit to the north of Scotland had been on our wish list for a long time, with the Castle of Mey featuring strongly. Although the weather might have been better - visibility was not brilliant - the castle, and particularly its gardens, were well presented and very interesting. The guided tour of the castle was especially well conducted by a very well informed and friendly guide for whom no question was too much trouble. (She made the visit to the castle itself for us, notwithstanding that the detail of royal life is not a topic of great interest for us). The castle gardens are lovely: although at their best in June & July, even in September they were colourful with a unique beauty. Undoubtedly, this is a must if you are going to the north of Scotland. About a minimum of 4 hours is needed to appreciate the castle and its grounds: there is a good restaurant and shop. Undoubtedly, this is a must if you are going to the north of Scotland: strongly recommended
