“Nicely fitted hotel with large bedrooms.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2013

Nicely fitted hotel, large bedrooms, friendly staff. Poor breakfast choice and quality was the only let down. Dinner was good and nicely cooked. Hotel is well set up to deal with business clients in particular, tourists are in the minority. The area is bleak in the rain with the castle of Mey well worth a visit but John O ' Groats offered nothing special other than the feeling that you had been there. Good quiet roads but not a lot to visit other than the islands.

Room Tip: Rooms are large, the front overlooks a car park and the function area but at most times things are...

Currently we have 10 cereals, 14 cooked items-including local eggs, fish and meat items-4 juices, 8 teas/coffees, 6 jams/marms, 2 breads, 2 milk types, smoothies, yoghurts, fresh + dried fruit. You can visit award winning museums, castles, distilleries, art galleries, gardens, brochs, cairns 4000 years old, potteries, golf courses, wildbird havens, walking trails, forests. We have world class surf, wildlife cruises, horseriding-all before the countless tours of Orkney. I could go on!! I think you needed to take more time to see our county and all we have to offer

Stayed overnight on a brief escape from work in Aberdeen. Would stay there again.

Rooms: simply decorated, well appointed, clean, comfortable.

Restaurant: nice menu, limited wine list, efficient service.

Was a little surprised to be told that payment by Amex would incur a 5% surcharge as this was not stated on my reservation (via booking.com). I believe that this should be advised up-front.

Otherwise, all fine and dandy. Nicely quiet rooms away from the bar and restaurant area.

Warm and friendly team welcomed us after a long drive. We stayed three-nights to see the Castle of Mey (12 miles) and John O'Groats (20 miles) plus day trip on boat to Orkney Islands. The simple exterior of the hotel undersells the friendliness of the staff and the excellence of the meals. Recommend the mango and brie parcels! Room very clean and the wifi was fast.

We have just returned from a one night stay in this hotel while visiting up north. We were given a nice quiet room out the back of hotel (as requested). The room was adequately equipped and had a huge shower cubicle! We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner in the hotel, and weren't disappointed at all. Large portions and very friendly service. I would definitely choose this hotel again in future.

We were only there one night, but it was a good experience. This is a genuine three star hotel, with generously sized, clean and comfortable rooms, but the outstanding feature was the staff. They just cared. All did that tiny bit more than the minimum requirement and made staying there a really pleasant night, as opposed to just another night somewhere.

We have stayed two nights here and cannot praise the facility enough. One of us is confined to a wheelchair, and the disabled facility was perfect for us. The parking was by the door, there are plenty of electrical outlets at the correct level , and the wheel-in shower room was beautiful and extremely well thought out! Thurso is a fantastic destination, and the various drives we have taken especially along the coast are stunning in all weathers. The hospitality of the owners of the Park Hotel is warm and very welcoming. We will stay again with pleasure.

Just back from a 2 night stay in this hotel. we had a room in the main building which had a lovely view over Thurso. Room was clean and always had a lovely fresh smell. The food in the hotel was lovely, you knew it was fresh local produce. Both breakfast and dinner menu's had a great selection and we decided not to venture any further to eat. The only thing that let it down a bit was the smell of cooking which you could smell in the main reception area and in the upstairs corridor from mid afternoon, was a bit off putting, but otherwise a good hotel if you are in the area.

Room Tip: The rooms in the main building at the front of the hotel have a better outlook
