I was told the views from here were good but wow! East along the coast to John O'Groats, north to Orkney, south across Caithness and west along towards Durness. Also lots of birds.

“Not Jphn O Groats But Real Northernmost Point in Mainland UK”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

This is a spectacular place to visit. No tourist tat but just nature at it's best. The views to the Orkneys are amazing and the bird life is spectacular. The area also abounds in many types of orchids.

“UK's most northerly point”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

It's a long way from London but, if you get a clear day - a must or it's disappointing - you can see across the Pentland Firth to Orkney and the views are quite stunning. Dunnet Head is a high headland with cliffs and seabirds galore. It has an outstandingly photogenic lighthouse, still active, and a high viewpoint with indications as to what you're seeing. At night you can see around 8 flashing lighthouses across the sea. It's also an ace place to see the planetarium above your heads on a dark night - despite the lighthouse, there's no light pollution here.

But don't bother if it's wet, misty or the visibility is restricted! It's just another clifftop then!

Only downside is the old military buildings dotted around and pretty ugly they are. But when you're peering out at Orkney, you don't notice them.

Plus, you're standing on Britain's most northerly point. No, it's not John o'Groats whatever you might have thought!

“Great views from the real northernmost point”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

A car park and a lighthouse that you can't visit - that's all there is but it is still very worthwhile to visit and enjoy the views. The best place is a little further up the hill to the right of the lighthouse.
Quite why nobody we know has heard of Dunnet Head or Duncansby Head, both of which are further north than John O'Groats we don't know - maybe all those cyclists are starting from the wrong place!
