Thurso is located far from anywhere - it's why I wanted to go. Upon arrival at reception, I received the warmest of welcomes, and this continued throughout the stay. The staff are excellent. My room was basic, and the tv tiny, but I didn't care. I spent the evening walking along the beach and coastline. This area has great nature and the hotel was a welcome place to return to for a nightcap. Food - good. Service - excellent.

The hotel is in the centre of Thurso and being an older style building the rooms are quite small but extremely comfortable with good bedding and amenities including modern ensuite fittings. The hotel is very clean and well maintained. The staff were very friendly and efficient and meals were most enjoyable.
Thurso is a delightful town and there are many interseting places to visit in the surrounding area [see photos] including sandy beaches, John O'Groats, Dunnet Head which is the most northerly point of the mainland, historical Wick which has a most interesting museum and the wonderful Mey Castle which was the only residence that Elizabeth the late Queen Mother actually owned.[Her well used blue coat and wellington boots are still just inside the front door!]

We have just spent 4 nights at the St. Clair as part of a coach party. All the staff were very pleasant & helpful. The rooms, although basic had everything you would need. The toiletries were good quality & plentiful. The food was good and there was a choice of three dishes for each course. Thurso is a small but pleasant country town. We would recommend a trip to the excellent museum.

A nice tiny hotel near the downtown area. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room, although small, was very clean . The dining room was off the lobby and was adequate.
My husband is of the Sinclair family so this trip to Thurso was very special.

We used this hotel as a base for going to the Castle of Mey (see photo). Beverley and Jamie, the hotel owners, were extremely friendly and helpful, and Beverley, when there were no Sunday buses to take us to the Castle of Mey, took us herself, and then picked us up when we called after visiting! That was a special case, and public buses are ordinarily available all other days, but it gives some idea of the kindness and willingness to help of the St. Clair people. They also directed us to the very interesting Caithness Horizons, an excellent local history museum. The spacious breakfast room (with free and generous cooked breakfast provided) was very pleasant, and service was courteous and attentive. The bedroom, while not large, was quite comfortable, with an excellent bathroom and shower, and with an interesting view (see photo) of the most picturesque church in town. If we go back to Thurso, we will definitely stay here again.

Stayed at the St.Clair for 3 nights on a coach trip. The Hotel is centrally located in Thurso, which is a pleasant enough little town but there was not much going on. The room was comfortable with T.V. and tea/coffee making facilities. The food in the restaurant was good, although the fried breakfast was a bit short on quantity. Staff were pleasant and helpful. There has clearly been investment in this Hotel in recent times as evidenced by the very nice lounge bar area and it is certainly not a bad base if you are touring the surrounding area.
