“Seriously good food in Wick”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

Recently spent 5 days working in Wick where I had the pleasure of eating at this delightful little restaurant. Main courses were quite delicious and very reasonably priced. During the course of four evenings here I enjoyed an excellent fish and chips served, as it should be, on a newspaper; Lochquay collar of pork and monkfish, peas, broad beans, veal jus; Pan roasted corn fed chicken breast, orzo, pancetta, tomato and black olive sauce; Baked Scrabster cod, capers, herbs, brown butter. Its not everywhere you can enjoy mains as good as these and a decent sized glass of wine for £20. Indeed I would go as far as to say that No 1 Bistro probably has the edge on the infinitely more expensive Captains Galley 20 miles up the road in Scrabster as a restaurant you could enjoy eating in several nights in a row without burning a serious hole in your pocket. Recommended perhaps particularly for anyone travelling up to John O'Groats for the ferry to Orkney.

“The Best of Caithness”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

Back again and Murray's team met all my expectations with a very good value lunch menu Excellent friendly service and a showcase for quality food, Beautifully presented and locally sourced. Worth the detour...Ok it is 12 hours drive from London but if you on on the way to Orkney or John O'Groats book a table.

Locally sourced ingredients and an excellent chef. We enjoyed four great dinners there when we stayed in the hotel Mackays Hotel.

“Great find!”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

After reading other tripadvisor reviews, it sounded a little too good to be true considering the area. We gave it a go last night and were pleasantly surprised- we had truffle buttered chicken liver parfait and salmon starter followed by the lamb and the pork - all of which was absolutely delicious! We were made to feel very welcome and the staff were all very friendly (as were the fellow customers) and the waiter was particularly attentive. The restaurant itself feels a little tired and could do with updating but this and the lack of music didn't affect the atmosphere as it was completely full and everyone seemed to be having a great time. My only criticism (and it's not through lack of appreciation) is that the dram at the end was a nice thought but didn't meet the quality of the food.
Aside from that carry on what you're doing guys it's great!
