Large quiet room overlooking the river Wick, a town unexpectedly interesting . On the expensive side (£ 119 VAT incl) , but worth it.
Welcome cordial and bottled water in room . Walking distance to center and harbor. Hairdryer and even a ready iron and board in the hallway. Cute intimate pub, restaurant charmeless but good food except i could not have a half portion of a scottish soup (cullins Skink) for half price ( i am lactose intolerant but I still wanted to try it ) . Friendly staff. Parking in front of the hotel .

Room Tip: # room 24 is an excellent large bright room with a bathtub albeit a bit tricky to use the stopper.

Dear Ondine21

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry you couldn't get a half portion of Cullen Skink, that is very unusual so thank you for raising that training issue.

It's great to hear you enjoyed all the little extras we add to our rooms and our food.

Next time you're in Scotland do come and stay again and we will make sure you sample our Cullen Skink!

Kind regards
Ellie Lamont

This is our second stay at Mackays Hotel. We visited in July last year and again in July 2014 for 3 nights. We flew both ways from Edinburgh to the small airport at Wick which is only 2 miles out of town. Collection from the airport was arranged by a member of the hotel staff. Mackays have a rental car that they rent to visitors, we rented the modern Mercedes for 2 days. The food was exceptional both breakfast and dinner. Our bedroom had recently been modernised with new furniture and been redecorated with matching fabrics. The owners of Mackays Murrie and Ellie are great hosts. Every time we go we try and persuade them to sell the monster teddy bear they have in reception.

Went to visit Mackays for a meal. Very pleased with the great food on offer at Mackay's Hotel. The starter was Cullen Skink for me and my wife had scallops, Murray the host even told us the name of the man who dived for the scallops in Scapa Flow! Fresh, fresh, fresh! Main was sirloin steak and a tremendous pepper sauce with hand cut chips. Pigged out with a dark chocolate mousse and strawberries to finish.

I was really impressed and to top it all they were well clued up to cater for my gluten free requirements.

Definitely recommended for a visit. Well done Murray and the team!
