A wonderful Hotel right on the cliffs Even with the wind and snow gusting .Inside the open fires and true scottish fayre make it homely and warm The newly converted stables make beautiful individual and characterful rooms with their own special edginess Well worth a stay off the main track of tourist venues

Room Tip: try one of the stables rather than the main tower

There was a group of us went for Sunday Lunch to the Tower and was quite disappointed.
The food was nothing special and was cold. We paid a lot of money for the lunch and expected better. You even had to pay £5 extra if you wanted tea or coffee which I thought was very steep.
My granddaughter was also waiting to see Santa which we told would be there and alas wasn't.
The only good thing was the service from the waiting staff.

We renewed our Wedding Vows at Ackergill Tower on the 30th November. We had such an amazing time. I had one of the best days of my life & wouldn't change a single thing. Karen & her team provided us with amazing personal service on our special day. It was relaxed & everyone really enjoyed themselves. We could not have felt more welcome. The food was outstanding, the activities were so much fun & the beach bonfire was a great end to the day, drinking hot chocolate & toasting marshmallows. Cannot recommend Ackergill Tower enough. It is a magical place & even though we were only 2 miles from Wick it felt like a million... Thanks again, Kerry & Alan xx

I will always have fond memories of Ackergill Castle because that is where my husband proposed to me. The staff set up a meeting with a falconer and various different birds to show us falconry. We interacted with falcons, different owls and an American bald eagle! At the end a beautiful white owl flew to me carrying a message on it foot....the message read "Brooke, will you do the honor of marrying me?" OMG, how can I say no?

The castle itself is very neat. We didn't actually stay in the castle though, but we explored it. We stayed in the beach house located right next to it. The beach house was fabulous! Well appointed and cozy. We actually extended our trip so we could stay here longer. There's a full kitchen and a washing machine, but no dryer. We had to hang dry our clothes. The castle grounds are really neat too. If you walk down a wooded path you'll find a really cool tree house.

The only downfall was we felt slightly abandoned. But for some that could be a good thing. Other than the first day when we met with the falconer and that night when we had a delicious dinner at the castle, there was nobody to be found. Apparently there wasn't anyone else staying there at the same time as us because the castle was dark. Literally there was nobody to be found which was ok because we didn't need anything but we found it to be a little weird.

All in all I highly recommend staying at Ackergill Tower. Especially the beach house.

Room Tip: Stay in the beach house!

A couple of months ago my wife and me were traveling around the north of Scotland. We visied Ackergill Tower and booked this hotel thinking it would be truly outstanding, but the service was not anything I expected. Only a few of the hotel staff seemed really professional. In my opinion it is a castle with great potential that is not being properly managed. The views from there are lovely, and also the place is beautiful. That´s the brightside...

Me and my husband decided to spend our honeymoon at Ackergill Tower which turned out to be the best decision ever. We stayed in the Dukes room which had a wonderful view of the sea and the cliffs. The service was excellent and so was the room, castle itself and available facilities. It was a stormy couple of days yet the walks on the empty beach were like nothing we have experienced before. The tea and biscuits brought to our room made this stay very special, as did the delicious breakfast and dinners we had in the dining room. What was, however, most memorable was the private dining experience that has been organised for us in the library (my very favourite room in the castle) on our last night of the week and a bottle of champagne as a gift. Other five star hotels, whether boutique or bigger ones, could not compare to Ackergill Tower. What a treat!

What a wonderful place with a real atmosphere which engages you. We stayed in the Daffodil Suite which was wonderful and a great bed. The turreted bay window was great to sit relax and read. Sound of the sea was terrific. The rooms with log fire roaring were just great. Even though we stayed one night, we were made very welcome with great service. Thank you, we will be back.

Clearly, a terrific place for big family parties, corporate events and weddings.

Some great stories also!
