“The perfect escape”
Reviewed 12 October 2017 for a stay in October 2017

We took the sleeper to Inverness to get to our idyll - where the Caledonian Canal meets the Moray Firth. It was absolutely perfect for a quiet escape and refresh. The cottage is designed beautifully with everything we needed - even the teapot with tea strainer for the leaf tea we brought.
We wandered by the canal, turning left for spotting the occasional, otter, seal and heron. Or right by the marina and left at the bridge for the well stocked Co-op.
The pub is just over the railway line and has a restaurant but we preferred to cook our own Scottish fare.
Some softer lighting in the kitchen/diner would have been nice for when eating.

We would definitely return when we need to recharge our batteries again. So relaxing.

“Otter Cottage - Little bit of heaven”

Otter Cottage is blessed with a beautiful location, character, charm and ambiance. Waking each morning to watch sunrise over the firth, then watch it set over the gorgeous canal all from our backdoor could not have been more perfect. Apart from the splendid walks along the canal path, there is a lovely walk up through the little forest on the hill with deer (and a slightly elusive Badger). We were welcomed to the beautifully furnished cottage with a catered breakfast tray on the bed. The cottage is warm and welcoming, and was the perfect home away from home. Great amenities - deep bathtub for relaxing by the bed, large shower in the ensuite, washer and dryer for laundry, slow combustion fire (althou not needed in mid-May). Inverness City centre is easily walkable, as is the local Co-Op supermarket. Otter Cottage is the perfect base for exploring the highlands. Highly recommended.

We visited over the Easter weekend with our dog Jaffa. We had a lovely few days and the weather was very kind to us (mainly!). It's a beautiful cottage and was very comfortable. Jaffa settled in immediately and loved his walks along the tow path beside the canal. We have 2 observations which we hope are taken on board - firstly, there is no mention of the railway line directly behind the cottage. It's not a busy line, but it was a surprise and there is obviously some noise from the trains, so we would have expected this to be mentioned. Secondly (and I think others have also made this point) it would be good to have a footstool in the living room for extra comfort. However, overall we loved our weekend there and will be booking another visit.

Thank you for this. Glad that you were able to enjoy your stay in the Highlands. Will take on board your helpful comments. The footstool is being added this week. The railway line is photographed on our own website but we will also look to give more detail about it on this listing with Tripadvisor. Thank you for highlighting this on this forum. Hope to see you again soon.

“Lovely cottage, a home from home!”

Just back from spending new year at Otter Cottage, the cottage is beautiful, cozy and has everything you need in a self catering holiday let. The location is perfect, away from the main town but only a 2 minute drive to the centre. Our wee pup absolutely loved her daily walks around the canal. There is plenty of information in the cottage for things to do in Inverness and further afield. We will definitely be back!

My wife and l stayed here on the coldest frosty 2 night's of the winter so far but we were warm and cosy with the central heating and a cracking log burner to keep us warm. This wee cottage is of the highest standard in decor and facilities to make your stay here comfortable. Must add , a big thank you to the owners for the treats left for us on arrival, very much appreciated.

You shouldn't ever need an excuse to light the fire when you are on a Highland retreat but that weekend it was definitely essential! Whilst it is lovely to see the wintry landscape it is nice to be cosy so we keep the woodshed well stocked and it is nice to hear that the wood burner is well used.

“Gorgeous respite away from it all - but without being too far away from it all”

I was SO happy when I was at Otter Cottage, and I don't think it was just because I used it in wonderful weather.
Outside seating and patio door overlooking the water is my favourite thing, but even if we had just spent the time looking inwards instead of outside, this is a very aesthetically pleasing and cosy, comfortable cottage. I also loved feeling like I was very much away from it all, but safe in the knowledge that shops etc were only minutes away. I loved watching boats go past too.

I can't wait to be back!

Excellent cottage! My husband and I have just returned from a short break in Otter Cottage. From the moment we walked into the property we were impressed with the decor and the facilities on offer. The cottage is in a quiet location with excellent views. There is a small outdoor seating area where you can enjoy the stunning views. The property is decorated to a high quality and has all of the home comforts you would want are available. It was like a home from home and my husband and I could not want any more from a holiday cottage. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this property. Everything is within walking distance from the cottage so once parked you can explore the delights of the local area and the excellent eateries.
