Can I firstly say, that I have never before written a review on TA, nor on any other site. I have just joined TA to specifically reply to the comments of the manager from Contrast. Why is this? Because, quite frankly, I was pretty stunned by what he has written in reply to a review posted by my dining companion after our last visit.
It is not only personally embarrassing to receive a terrible meal, but is upsetting to have to say anything about it. It not only ruins the evening for yourself, but the evening of the person or people you are with. We will always do our best never to complain about the food, regardless of how awful it is, in order not to ruin the evening of the people we are with.
When my friend couldn’t cut her steak, I thought it was just so funny that the knife was completely blunt, & when it happened again, even funnier. However, when she was able to cut it, chewed & chewed & chewed, then had to remove it from her mouth, I was mortified for her, & she was clearly embarrassed. My meal was excellent, & so I felt dreadful that she had taken me out for a meal, & hers was inedible.
The manager here seems to implying that she is lying – I was present & can verify that she is not, & has only stated facts in her review. When she was only offered ‘£6 off for the price of the meat’, I thought it was a joke. I asked her if she was happy to accept this. Of course she wasn’t happy – who would be? It had already greatly marred our evening, & to prevent further embarrassment to her or myself, she accepted it – something I certainly would not have done myself ! In my opinion, she should not have had to pay for the meal. Especially as we had already been overcharged from the stated prices on the website !
I think the greatest shame here is, she has taken me here countess times to eat, & apart from a couple of not so great meals within our group, we have always had a lovely time. So, for the sake of trying to discredit her review, you have lost forever one of your most frequent customers, who has introduced at least 6 people to your restaurant, who previously never knew it existed !
We were certainly NEVER offered a free meal by Ben, nor did we even have a conversation with him ! As you know, that is a complete fabrication. We were offered the £6 discount by the lady sat at the desk between the restaurant & bar. How you can turn down something you were never offered is a mystery to me.
This situation could have been handled just so much better by yourselves, both on the night, & in your reply. I did say later on in the evening, that I loved the place, & would continue to go. However, I am ashamed that you felt the need to try to discredit a factual review, & for this reason, I do not now intend to ever return. My friend was so astounded at your reply that her comments were ‘inaccurate and bordering on the imaginary’, that she suggested we make an appointment to see you - something she was happy to do. However, it didn’t sound from your reply that it would be either a productive, nor a rational meeting, hence me posting this reply instead. Plus, she is then at risk of you posting further untrue & derogatory comments about her & the review.
Incidentally, I have a full loyalty card, entitling me to a free lunch. Though, after reading your reply, I have no intention of using this now.
