A neighbour recommended the Oakwood advising that the food was great. We stopped by on a wet weekday and enjoyed a huge bowl of soup each - pea and ham for hubbie and a smoked salmon chowder for me with hunks of bread. Totally delicious. Hubbie opted for a fudge cheesecake - I was totally stuffed.
Lovely food - great prices and a very friendly host.

Called in for lunch whilst moored by the lock.
The soup was excellent and the scallops possibly the best we have ever had.
A large pot of tea for three and a pot ( 4 cups) of very nice coffee for myself.
The owner was friendly in the typical north scot's way and we were made very welcome.
Ignore poor reviews about the reception here just take it as you find it and remember where you are.
Very reasonable prices £8 haggis tatties and neeps £11:95 for rump lamb roast with fresh veg £12 for a very good haunch of venison.... I could enthuse about Oakwood until the haggis come home......

Our friends told us about the Oakwood but it has taken us a long time to get round to going there and we really regret that. The food is superb and I just love the homely feel to the place. You will be our new regular!

We read the reviews and decided to give the Oakwood a go as we were looking for something authentic and homely. It was really lovely. The surroundings are quaint and very informal and the food is excellent with a home cooked feel. You have to remember to take a bottle of wine with you as they don't serve alcohol but they provide the glasses and don't charge corkage. "Gus" the waiter (who I suspect is the owner) is a hoot with a very dry sense of humour. The seafood is "to die for". This isn't the cheapest restaurant we have eaten in but nor was it expensive. It was worth paying a few pennies more for the quality of the food and the bottle of supermarket priced wine more than compensated.
