Heading off through the Caledonian canal this summer we stopped for the night at Dochgarroch and discovered the Oakwood restaurant. After our 15 min walk from the boat were welcomed in. The owner asked if we had brought wine, as they are not licensed. Unfortunately we had left some on the boat and after a long day we weren't keen on the hike back. Incredibly, the owner threw us a set of keys and said we should take his van! 5 mins later we were sitting relaxing with our wine and awaiting the food we had ordered. When it came, the food was superb. The owner was a super chap with a dry sense of humour, engaging in just the right amount of banter with us to make us feel at home but not too intrusive. What a cracking place - a fab start to our holiday. Eat here, you won't regret it. :)
