We arrived a bit early and all our rooms weren't ready so I asked if we could leave our bags in the one that was ready and return later. This wasn't a problem and we made our way to Loch Ness. Rooms were clean and comfortable, and when they realized we were 5 instead of the 6 booked in for they gave us a single for my son, and charged us a lesser rate. I am very appreciative of our hosts thoughtfulness. Breakfast was very good, and the girl in the breakfast room was very nice. Great location close to may restaurants and close to the river to take a nice stroll along on a beautiful night.

This was the annual ''3 Amigos (train anoraks)'' rail safari. We used the Clansman as the base for 3 nights to do trips to the Kyle, Thurso & Edinburgh. I assume the Clansman is just 2* because it is only bed & breakfast and hasn't a bar--but it delivers a 4* service. At the booking stage the communication was friendly, prompt, efficient -helpful with directions etc.
The hotel is within easy walking (even for we 3 wrinklies) of bus/train station and wide range of restuurants and watering holes. It is family run and Iain is a fine 'mine host' and was very helpful in various ways eg printing off boarding pass for flights etc
the rooms are small but with very comfortable bed ,bright and very clean--the breakfasts were tasty with good range of cereals etc and cooked to order eggs bacon, sausages etc,etc all delivered by very pleasant staff.
Although the hotel dosen't have a bar as such drinks at very reasonable prices can be ordered at reception and there is a comfortable seated area to relax--there's even a piano if you want to make music.--perhaps one small criticism--the reception/lounge area is very quiet-you find yourself whispering!--some soft background music would improve the atmosphere.
There is a good supply of literature re local attractions and things to do and Iain will always help
If you are interested you can learn a lot about Scottish clans and thier tartans by just wandering around the hotel!!
Overall we all agreed this was a good choice and we would have no hesitation in staying there again when in Inverness

Room Tip: As the hotel is on a main St. probably room at back is quieter--but poor outlook into narrow close--also no lift so if you have walking difficulties ask for 1st floor

I have stayed at MacDougall Clansman on a few occasions previously so had no hesitation in booking a night there on my way to the Western Isles.Lovely comfy and home-from-home hotel, right in the middle of town and near railway station and river walks. Only regret was I didn't stay longer on this occasion. Friendly and helpful staff, pleasant breakfast room, and very comfy bed.

Room Tip: I stayed on a double room and it was just lovely; the single rooms are pleasant too.

PLUSES
Service, attitude of staff
Met needs for special diet (soy milk)
Location - convenient to downtown and river
Internet included (arguably only in the lobby)

MINUSES
Noise from alley
Dust bunnies
Smell (musty?) in entrance foyer
Parking could be an issue, we lucked out with on-street parking free overnight.
