“Not this time!”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

I've been here many times before and I can't say I've ever had an unsatisfactory experience. The locations wins the day; a spectacular setting on the shores of Loch Ness. On a summer's day there aren't many better places in the area to sit out and enjoy a pub lunch and great ale.
Sadly, yesterday I was a little let down by long waiting times and fairly average food.
My haggis starter was great; the whisky and mustard sauce in particular made for a delicious dish. I opted for the fish and chips as a main and especially when considering the price was £11 it was poor. The batter was crispy - just as it should be - but completely tasteless. The mushy peas were stodgy and devoid of flavour plus the chips would have been so much better had they been made fresh rather than straight out of a frozen packet.
The restaurant was busy but our wait for food - and even to have an initial drinks order taken - was unacceptable.
The Inn will command a roaring trade over the next few months but I'd be hoping for a much better standard all round; as well as a few smiles from some disinterested looking staff members.

P.S. If you're just here for a few drinks, the ale is outstanding.

well worth a visit, food great, staff lovely. Small friendly pub located on the banks of Loch Ness. The rib of beef just melted off the bone.

“Delicious”

Our hosts at the Baladachian B&B recommended the Dores Inn for dinner, and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed local seafood, beef and beer after a day of kayaking on a windy Loch Ness.

“Magical combination of scenery, food and beer & Nessie!”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

I am a regular visitor to the Dores Inn over the last 20 years, and have to say the consistency of good food, good ales and spectacular scenery, are a magical combination. The bar change their ales quite often and host local breweries from the Black Isle, Orkney, Skye and the Cairnsgorms - plus the usual assortment of "regular" lager and other beers.

The food is excellent, but book ahead if you want the avoid disappointment. I have to say that to sit our side on a summer evening or during the day and drink in the scenery, good company, food a beer takes some beating.

It a popular location, very family friendly, reasonable prices and good choice coupled with excellent service and an all year round atmosphere, equally breathtaking in Winter or Summer.

Nessie does make the occasional appearance, usually between 10.40 and 11.00 at night, often following a few ales - "Did you see that water move, I a sure it's a pair of eyes looking at me".

Definitely in my top 5 places anywhere!
