Macdonald Drumossie Hotel

We had expected to be close to Inverness, but this hotel is several miles away. And is a taxi ride to go anywhere. The reception staff was not particularly helpful or friendly. The restaurant staff on the other hand was very courteous and helpful. Food was average. Breakfast buffet was ok, although there were numerous items they wanted to charge extra for...such as hot chocolate instead of coffee or tea. Rooms were adequate but outdated and small. Outdated decor that needs updating. Overpriced as well

The New Drumossie Hotel is located a few miles outside the town of Inverness. This was a drawback for me, as we had been dropped off at the hotel by our tour guide, and we did not have transportation into town. The staff was helpful in calling a taxi for us to drive us into town for dinner, but I would have preferred to be able to walk into town. I would have preferred to be able to walk anywhere from the hotel, but there was no sidewalk to walk along the road, and there were no pathways to walk around the land surrounding the hotel. The restaurant in the hotel seemed to have a limited dinner menu. I did not have dinner there. The breakfast buffet was OK. I found the decor and layout of the hotel to be old-fashioned without being quaint or charming. The hotel has a large banquet room and I can see that being a draw for big events.

Today I was at a conference for work and I have very special dietary requirements. I have to say the staff were fantastic and thought on their feet giving me an excellent Lunch with no fuss. They went the extra mile, with a smile and so deserve recognition. Well done and thank you

Stayed here for a short break. Easy to find and well sign posted from the main roads. Warm welcome and staff friendly. Rooms were clean and comfortable but dated. Breakfast was good, and the service overall very good. However we've stayed in some great places in the past for a similar price, and this place doesn't quite live up to the same standard.

Booked this hotel due to Inverness being busy due to half term. The receptionist could not have been nicer until she enquirer about a table for dinner. Given I had driven all day and still had work to do I asked for 7pm. Was told that only time was 8pm. After some discussion and some persistence we agreed a table at 7:30pm. Imagine my amazement when I walked into the restaurant expecting it to be buzzing only to find less than 50% taken. At no point during my time in the restaurant did it exceed about 70% capacity.
The food was acceptable but definetly not 5* and was, in my opinion, over priced. Just a pity that it is ten minutes away from Inverness and a choice of places to eat.
The room itself was ok but not stunning.
Doubt I will go back to this hotel.

For some reason this hotel is rated as 4 stars, perhaps for the smaller town of Inverness it is one of the better hotels, however by no means is it a standard 4 star. To compare to larger cities, it would rate as a 2 or 3 star on it's good days.

We stayed 1 night while traveling through Scotland which just happened to be the actual night of our 1 year anniversary. Upon checkin we were greeted and told that if we wanted to eat in the restaurant that we had to go right then or else they would be closing...really? it was about 8:30 or 8:40pm when we checked in, tired from our day and looking forward to changing and having a nice dinner for our anniversary. Instead we dined dishelved in jeans and sweatshirts... no kidding.

There was an obnoxiously loud birthday party going on in what I guess what their ballroom right off of reception. We were given our room key and went quickly to at least drop off our luggage instead of hauling it to the dining room. When we got to the room we were greeted with the sounds of the party filtering up from directly below our room...again, really? You knew the party was going on, it was our anniversary and you still put us in that room. We hauled our luggage back down, discussed the situation with the receptionist and asked for a different room. She said she could check on when the party was to end....no, put us in a different room. She said to give her a few minutes so she could check on doing so. Finally another gentleman came out and took us to another area of the hotel and showed us another room. We at least could not hear the party and said ok fine. We had to rush to get to the restaurant in our jeans before they closed.

The room we booked was their 'feature' king room which in the photos on their website showed a beautiful room with canopy bed...nope, neither 'feature' room we were put into looked anything like it. The furnishings were ok, bed was basic and had heavy draperies on the windows which were faded from the sun. The room looked tired and worn. The bathroom was ok but the sink was odd that it had 2 faucets so you could only get either hot or cold water, not a mix of both. The towels were extremely rough and some had holes in them. After dinner I slipped on a provided bathrobe to freshen up and found it to be as rough as the towels and it also had a hole in it...really? You are rated as a 4 star hotel? This is NOT how 4 star hotels operate.

Our rate included a breakfast which was ok. Upon check-out I paid with a credit card as we do not carry a lot of cash on us when we are at home nor traveling. The person at the desk said there was a 3 british pound charge for using a credit card...seriously folks, this is ridiculous. We paid enough for the room and you are going to penalize us for paying with a credit card? Most people do use credit cards these days.

Thankfully our stay was only 1 night. We were disappointed in service, the quality of the room and the items in the room such as the rough, hole filled towels and robes. It was also disappointing that the hotel did not offer us anything at all towards our anniversary celebration. Another hotel we stayed at during our visit to the UK, during casual conversation, ended up showering us with items to celebrate and great service. A simple room upgrade or maybe a bottle of champagne, something, anything to acknowledge our special occasion and also to make up for the room hassle at the beginning would have been a nice gesture.

The one positive was that even though we were forced to rush to dinner instead of being able to clean up and change we did have a good meal in the restaurant that evening. Although our waiter disappeared at the end to go drop off room service. We finally got tired of waiting on him to come back and headed back to our room that looked as tired and worn as we felt at that point.

This hotel is certainly a five star hotel. My husband and I were there for our anniversary and everything was excellent. The food was first class and the staff on reception and in the restaurant couldn't do enough for us. One small complaint was the price of the wines but seeing it was a special occasion we splashed out on a bottle of red. We will certainly be back.
