Stayed at Drumossie for Hogmany and the 1st of January and had a very good experience. Room was large, with a very comfortable bed. Had breakfast both mornings which was excellent.

Had room service on the 1st which was also very good (burger), and delivered very promptly. Every staff member we came across at the hotel was very friendly, especially Laura who was on reception.

Hotel is only 5mins in a taxi to Inverness city centre, and ideally located near to the main road down to Loch Ness.

Have used this Hotel at various times over the past 3/4 yrs.

It did deteriorate re service but the last twice we have noticed a distinct improvement.

Food wise I keep being disappointed re meat quality, particularly their steaks, which is a pity as Scottish Beef is good and plentiful at other Hotels in area.

They appear to have managed to obtain & retain good Dining Room managers as this was one area which was getting distinctly sloppy.

All staff are very efficient & friendly, place clean & comfortable so I would happily recommend it and will certainly be using it again as we travel to Inverness very frequently from Northern Scotland.

Good Points
* Beautiful grounds, lovely views from hotel room. Be sure you are facing the back on the hotel otherwise you may overlook the carpark instead.
* Tastefully decorated room
* Comfortable beds
* 10 min drive to Inverness city centre
* lovely buffet breakfast
* Free wine if you book on www.booking.com
* Friendly service
* A great base to explore the highlands
* Free parking

Bad Points
* We thought it was cheeky that they automatically added a charity donation to our bill. We are not against donating to charity, but it should be at our own discretion not that of a hotel.

On our tour of Scotland we stopped off at the New D hotel for a night after touring Loch ness, with Urquhart Castle being the highlight of our trip around Scotland. We also went to the loch ness tour (which was interesting, but we caught the one in Edinburgh and it was much the same). Our miss on Loch Ness was we should have went whale spotting north of inverness - a tip.

At the hotel, the staff was really trying to help but a bit lost.
We had to change rooms, etc. etc. A bit of a hassle, but they did their best - although we found them a bit confused (for example, when we got our room - I was totally loaded up as there was no bell man and she sent us the wrong direction, and over charged us by accident, forgot to return our credit card as we left, had no clue that gold membership applied to their hotel, lost a room key that she showed us around with ... so just double check).

The hotel itself was fine. Rooms were nice. Key for us is the bathrooms - they were updated. Clean, etc. But the decor is quite outdated.

The restaurant was excellent. 2 AA stars and you could tell. Even though the chef was dealing with a wedding (kilted scots were everywhere), he managed to serve up a fantastic dinner. The first fantastic dinner we have had in a macdonald hotel (most are average). Would recommend eating there - the lobster was local and quite good (although a bit lean in size for the price).

Not much in the way of facilities (i.e. no spa, pool,etc) so this is a good stop off hotel - as you tour the area. Inverness is wonderful.

As an aside, it is 10 minutes outside of Inverness.

This is a really beautiful hotel. It appears to have been refurbished a few years ago, and a great deal of money has been spent on retaining the original features whilst making it more modern. The location is great - just outside Inverness (about 10 minutes) in beautiful countryside.

Our room was enormous and the bathroom fabulous. Little details such as free whisky, windows that open properly, ability to turn off the heating - all made it a perfect stay.

Although we didn't stay at the Drumossie we recently dined there for a special occasion.

The food was excellent and the staff attentive, all as we'd expect from a top notch hotel such as this.

The disappointment was the restaurant itself, it's like a cross between a museum and a morge. It's dark and dingy, with dark wallpaper, heavy old fasioned dark curtains and stuffy old pictures with heavy gold frames on the walls. The evening we visited the sun was shinning outside which just exagerated our dreary surroundings.

The rest of the hotel is clean, bright and modern, we've attended functions at the Drumossie before and they've been of exceptional standard, so why is the restaurant so awful. It's like somehting out of the 1960's!!!!
