“River view - with great food”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

A return visit after a couple of years. We loved the food 3 years ago and wanted to return. Tasting menu was sublime (as it was before). We were also lucky enough to get a room with a bow window facing the river which was a great setting. Sitting in the sofa and watching the river flow by was very relaxing. We have no idea if the TV worked, as with such a setting we did not even think of turning it on.

We found the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful, for example, when I asked about whether there was a lift the receptionist offered for someone to help with our bags.

Only downside for us was the car access. Inverness is slow and currently has road works and the road the hotel is on is now a one way street - we got to see more of inverness by car than expected from our previous visit.

Room Tip: Our river side view room was great.

Delightful setting on the riverbank, really nice, friendly young (mainly local) staff and first class breakfast. Our room was in the annex which suffered from noisy plumbing - in particular prolonged and loud refilling of the water tank after someone close by had a shower - at 1 am!! Lack of a lift in the annex annoyed some American guest with heavy suitcases.

Room Tip: Avoid the annex

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on your recent visit to The Glenmoriston Town House and I am sorry that you were disappointed as a result of noisy plumbing coming from an adjoining room. I have already shared your comments with our Head of Maintenance to follow through and have this checked. Please do not hesitate to contact me when you plan your next visit and I would be happy to oversee all arrangements on your behalf.
Kind regards,

I booked this hotel last minute and wasn't disappointed.
Although it took a while to find due to a road closure the check in was quick and efficient. The staff were all very friendly and happy to help.
I would say the rooms are small but they are very well decorated and laid out. The bed is very firm with a memory foam mattress, which I loved but hubby didn't.
The bathroom was modern although looked slightly unfinished, but was very clean with great sundries.
Unfortunately we couldn't eat in unless we wanted to wait till after 9pm due to a function.
We had the full breakfast which was very well presented and tasted lovely.
In all I would highly recommend this hotel and would certainly would be back.

We stayed 3 excellent nights in the Glenmoriston and enjoyed it quite a bit.

The hotel is adorable inside and our and set along the beautiful riverside. Our room was large and had a river facing view - a delightful sight to wake up to each day. It was an easy 5-7 minute walk into the heart of town.

We ate in both Abstract and Contrast - both meals were superior, delicious, and creative. These were honestly some of the best meals I've had and are surely fit for any foodie. The chef really knows how to create amazing flavors and the waitstaff was polite and helpful. The wine selection was very good and the scotch selection was outstanding with over 200 selections on site with very rare finds on hand. We were impressed with the bar managers vast knowledge and suggestions. He was a delight!

I'd be back in a heartbeat - sure there's no elevator and you must carry your own luggage up the stairs - I'm ok with that. This place is a jewel.

Room Tip: Spring for the Townhouse Deluxe Room with a River view! Great views with comfortable beds!

This hotel advertises "Experience unparalleled luxury", for a 4* hotel we couldn't find any luxury at all, in fact we have stayed in better 2* hotels.

We stayed here overnight for a luxury night away from home and were bitterly disappointed, we have stayed in much better 4* hotels and will not be returning to this one.

Lets start with the room. They boast about the comfort of their beds, Hmmmm not the best night's sleep we ever had. Their " fluffy towels" left a lot to be desired. The towels and bathrobes were hard and startchy and anything but fluffy.

Housekeeping wasn't up to much either, there were cobwebs in the bedroom, on the walls and round the light, a used plaster in the bathroom bin and the mouthwash they provided had been opened and used already.

The bathroom was a joke! The door itself wouldn't close as it was so warped and the tiling on the floor in the doorway was a trip hazard, wouldn't like to have tried going in there in the dark, could have ended up with a broken toe. The towel rail was scalding hot and had no warning sign. There were non slip strips missing in the bath and the bath itself looked like it was put in by a cowboy plumber, with bits cut out of the base and packing put in under the feet.

However the best laugh we had was at the chef! We went down to the dining room in the morning for breakfast expecting good food at least! We had a lovely waitress who couldn't have done enough for us. The breakfast was a bit mean and our single sausages each were both raw. On metioning this to the waitress she said she would tell the chef. The poor woman then had to come back and tell us that the chef said the sausages were perfectly cooked, it was the butcher who put a special dye in them that made them look and taste raw????? Sorry mate, that one just doesn't wash! The wall at the side of the dining room table was also spattered with food and drink and the floor lamp was covered in white wax or something.

On leaving, we told them about the breakfast and the housekeeping issues in the room. We were informed that the manager would be in touch with us as soon as possible. Despite waiting for over a week to hear from him, we have heard nothing! There are much better hotels in Inverness to stay in and we will not waste our money on this one again. We do have photo's but havn't had time to upload them yet!

Check-in was efficient. Unfortunately, our room was on the 3rd floor and there was no elevator. Room was functional. Bed was small for 2 people. Note the beds are only about 6' long, so if you're taller than that you probably won't be comfortable. Breakfast the next day was very good.

Attic room in annexe - no offer of help with luggage - very small with steeply sloping ceiling necessitating bending double to get into bed. Only one bedside table - no space for one on other side - and no centre light which meant clambering round bed and bending to reach bedside lamp on coming in at night. Breakfast service chaotic both days, with bread, juice, croissants etc all running out. 20 minute wait for order to be taken and further 10 for coffee to arrive. Still waiting for toast! Checkout delayed by two other groups complaining in front of us and manager overcharged on online rate already paid and then couldn't find any record of payment. Not in the least apologetic when shortcomings pointed out - there are way better hotels in Inverness than this.

Always difficult when you get a review like this. No one likes reading them, particularly when it is at complete odds with all our previous reviews.

Clearly we got it wrong for you and I hope you will accept my apologies. Whether we were busy or not I know our team will be saddened to read this. It really is the exception to the rule as our reviews testify and I would have hoped you might have recognised this and given us a chance to put it right for you during your visit.

We are busy for a reason, that being that we pride ourselves on offering amongst the best hospitality experience in Inverness and product to match. It is inexcusable that you felt let down and you have my sincere apologies for that.

All I would ask is that you contact me directly to discuss this review and I will welcome you back as our guest and hopefully we can redeem ourselves.

Kind regards,

Jonathan McConachie
