Owner description: Opened in 1993 by Prince Edward, Inverness Botanic Gardens, formerly Inverness Floral Hall & Gardens, are an oasis of calm and beauty within walking distance of the city centre. With each new season the outside gardens are an explosion of colour and texture, and borders are planted to demonstrate a wide variety of plants and growing conditions. The impressive glasshouses reveal the drama of plant diversity ranging from the tropical rainforests to arid, heat scorched desert.

“Lovely gardens, shame about the cafe”
Reviewed 16 June 2014 via mobile

The gardens are on a small site but are well worth a visit whether you are a keen gardener or not. This will be a very relaxing place to spend an hour or so if visiting Inverness.

I would advise against visiting the cafe, especially if you are vegetarian as there is virtually nothing to choose from. Also, the cafe staff are very brusque as I found when I was frogmarched from one seating area to another with my pot of tea. I was told this was because "you might break the crockery if you sit there" (?). I suspect the truth is they just can't be bothered to walk the extra few yards.

“Beautiful orchids”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

The hothouse is great in February when the orchids are blooming and the cafe serves nice food. The greenhouses are set in a walled garden which traps the sun.

“Beautiful gardens, friendly staff”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

My husband arranged a surprise trip to the botanic gardens for our fourth wedding anniversary (the traditional gift is flowers and fruit), along with a fruit salad packed lunch which we ate in gardens. It was a perfect day. I also took my camera and managed to get many good shots of the beautiful plants and flowers that grow there. We were also impressed by the friendly guide - i'm not sure he was a guide or a worker but all the same he was very friendly and knowledgable about the plants which made for an interesting, enjoyable trip. Thanks again!
