Excellent location. Very handy for the bus station, too.
Lovely room very quiet. Nothing was too much trouble for the reception staff when I arrived. I fully intend returning there in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: . Mon,Tues & Weds are the best days on which to stay. Service is excellent then. Restaurant staf...

Recently visited the royal highland hotel for a 2 night break break and i found the hotel to be ideal for a break. great location for the town, the hotel staff were friendly and very efficient, the hotel itself still looks great, with the staircase a sight to see. The room was very nice , a good size and everything you needed was there , also had an umbrella, didnt need it, an iron plus board. The food in the hotel was very good, service is very patchy so of the staff are excellent others need a bit more training . Will certainly stay there again, when we go back to Inverness, which is a great place for a short break ad the train journey is second to none from Newcastle.

Spent a two day break in this great hotel. Location great , right in centre next to Rail and Bus stations.
The staff were brilliant and could not be more helpful.
The reception area is lovely and our room 206 had a four poster bed and jacuzzi bath and was enormous.
The breakfast was great with all anyone could wish including cold meats, full Scottish and fish with a small waiting time.
We were lucky enough to get one of the seven car parking places outside the hotel.
On the second night had dinner in the hotel Ash restaurant which on the over 55 s menu cost £10 each great value and high quality.
Could not find any fault with the hotel.

Room Tip: 206 great room

My partner and I were given a 2 night stay with breakfast as a birthday present and we had a lovely stay!

The hotel is very easy to find in a nice central location and we managed to find a parking space right outside the front door, check in was quick and easy, the receptionist was very apologetic that the lifts weren't working but as we had a room on the 1st floor it wasn't a problem at all. The staircase is beautiful with lots of interesting modern art on the walls which was lovely to look at.

Our room was very spacious with 2 beds and a large en-suite, there was a kettle with a range of teas and coffees as well as bottled water both still and sparkling.

We encountered a few noises mainly creaky floorboards and the traffic outside but nothing to complain about

The breakfast selection was very good with lots of options and everything was clearly labelled and while we were there the staff were very attentive ensuring that dirty plates were removed immediately and all the food was replenished frequently

If i had any complaints to make it would be that the shower, while it was a lovely pressure, could have been a little hotter for my liking, it was turned up to it's hottest and was still quite lukewarm.

I very much enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hotel to others.

Staff:

We found the staff very helpful, we were constantly asking questions about where things were and what time things were open until and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. They all smiled and said Hello which was nice, I dont really know what everyone else is complaining about! Be polite to them and they will be polite back!

Rooms:

We stayed in room 202, it was a good size and very cosy. We had a very comfy double bed and a TV with lots of channels. It was very clean and we cant fault it in anyway although it was a little chilly at times and I could hear quite a bit of noise from the front of the hotel - seagulls and drunk people but the hotel cant do much about that! Bathroom was very nice, we were hoping for a fridge but didnt have one, we had a nice big wardrobe and iron/ironing board.

Location:

The location couldn't be more perfect, everything is within walking distance, it is right next to a train station and is 15 minute drive from Inverness airport. There is parking for 9 spaces outside the hotel but this can be a nightmare as there are always a lot of taxis and pick ups and its quite a small carpark. We were lucky to get a space one day, however if its full there is a multi-storey carpark just around the corner. £4 for 24 hours - not bad

Food:

We only ate breakfast here and it was great! A full English buffet including traditional black pudding and haggis, tea, coffee, fruit juice, pastries and muffins, fruit and cereal! The food was always hot and was very good quality. Alot nicer than other hotels we have stayed at!

We would definately recommend this hotel, it is excellent value for money and the service/food/rooms/location are great. If we return to Inverness we would stay here again.

The Royal Highland was once very grand and still tries to aspire to that grandeur but alas, once you go up the glorious stairway from the lovely lobby it's distinctly faded grandeur. The decor is suddenly rather shabby and although the hotel claims to have been recently refurbished it's all a bit scruffy. Our room was ok. But the bed and pillows were so hard I actually looked in the local M and S to see if they had any cheap pillows! The hotel claims to have free wifi but in fact you have to register so many details ( not quite your bra size but almost), for 45 free minutes, and then if you stop using it for more than 2 minutes that's it- no more free wifi that day even if you've only used 5 minutes! On the plus side the hotel is very central (beside the railway station) and the lovely restaurants we ate in are only a walk away (see other reviews).

Thank you for your kind review - while most of our guests do enjoy the Victorian ambience of this Heritage Hotel of the Highlands, we are disappointed that you found the refurbishment to your liking. There are strict rules now to register details while using the WiFi over which we really have no control and we hope you understand the reasons for that. Having said that, we are surprised that you could not enjoy your daily freetime of 45 mins and had we come to know about it during your stay we would have certainly tried to rectify the situation as there is a 24/7 support available for this, however, we apologise for any inconvenience caused due to this..We definitely hope that we will get another opportunity to welcome you in Inverness.

In the foyer the grand staircase, the inspiration for the Titanic's staircase, leads to the 84 spacious refurbished bedrooms - all with very high ceilings. The decor is rich with traditional furniture and deep colours. The rooms all have soft furnishings and antique style furniture. The excellent bathrooms are generally medium to large in size. For over 151 years, the hotel has been looking after travellers from all over the world. Perhaps its popularity stems from the fact the hotel is a grand place to stay. Large bedrooms, large lounge areas, quiet meeting rooms, good food, prime location and friendly staff all play their part. All local amenities close to hand, but within a 5 minute drive you are out into the dramatic Highlands. Lochness is only 7 miles from the hotel. ... more   less
