We stayed at the Royal Highland Hotel when we were on a guided tour of Scotland. There were no washcloths in the bathroom, there was a large shower but no bathtub. The WiFi service was outsourced by the hotel and required an arduous sign-on registration process. Once registered each guest had 45 minuted of free WiFi service. Rooms were comfortable. The hotel has a magnificent grand staircase going up from the lobby. Hotel is right at the train station in Inverness.

Our room was huge! Two queen beds with a nice bathroom. But, it's July in Scotland and the room was quite warm. We were provided a fan and opened the windows. Problem solved. However, the windows faced the train station and Inverness is a lively town on the weekends. We couldn't shut the windows to shut out the noise due to the uncomfortable temperature inside. We were part of a Rick Steve's tour. I, personally, would not stay there again. Also, who charges for wifi these days? And, it was a nightmare to get on and I had to sit in a chair by the window to get a very weak signal.

Set in the centre of Inverness just outside the railway station , very convenient for shops, bars and restaurants . Quite inside though .
Beautiful entrance with the reception area and stunning staircase. We were made very welcome by the reception staff on our arrival .
Our room was very comfortable , the bathroom was huge and a great standard , there was everything you would require In a room even including an umbrella ( it is Scotland after all ) .
We added on breakfast at £10 per person and what a breakfast it was - huge selection of hot and cold items of fantastic quality.
Will definitely be back !

Stayed at the Royal Highland for three nights last week as part of the (four retired professionals) boys annual trip. Arrived by train, very convenient as the hotel is part of the station, so only ten yards to walk! Also convenient for the city as a whole.

First impressions good, pleasant check-in procedure, nice rooms, clean and well presented, tea/coffee making facilities, nice bathroom with bath and a good shower, again clean and well maintained during our stay. Only critisism perhaps the beds, while comfortable, were only 2' 6", whereas 3' are always much better, and the room views were grim. Otherwise all good.
Good buffet style breakfast with a good choice of hot and cold food, good coffee which is always a plus.

Now the bad bit. On the second night of our stay we visited the restaurant as we had been out on an all day trip, arriving at 9pm. We had our starters and main course, my colleagues were happy with their fish, etc, but my sirloin steak was as tough as an old boot, difficult to accept when you are in Aberdeen Angus country! The onion rings were like rubber and the chips the cheapest and poorest that anyone could buy. Without insulting Iceland or Farm Foods, the meal could have been better sourced from either.

After our mains we waited....and waited for attention, looking forward to the Creme Brulee which was on the menu. Waited again, still no attention so we called it a day. While registering out of the restaurant I asked the Assistant Manager why no-one had had the courtesy to ask about puddings and coffee - kitchen had closed was his retort! We were customers, not only of the restaurant but of the hotel, but were abandoned without being allowed to finish our meal!

To add insult to injury we presented our room cards, duly signed, for payment to be added to our hotel bill. You can`t do that we were told, and despite our protestations, we had to pay there and then! What has happened to customer service?

So there we have it, the hotel overall is good, but don`t visit the restaurant, the food is poor and the customer service beyond words! One final gripe, wifi is £5 a day which these days is an insult when it costs a hotel just pence!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room with a view and don`t visit the retaurant!

Thank you for the review and while we have noted the positives pointed out, we shall definitely initiate corrective action on the negatives. We offer Free WiFi for 45 mins per night of stay per room and it is only chargeable after this free period. We hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you and offer you the stay experience that a majority of our guests take back with them.
