“Scrummy breakfast”
Reviewed 23 March 2014 via mobile

Lovely spacious room. The only downfall being the overwhelming smell of paint - headache inducing! Great service from the restaurant staff. Breakfast was scrummy however the steak I had for dinner was way to tough and chewy, not even the steak knive could cut through it - most disappointing given the price paid. The receptionist who was on over the weekend was neither welcoming or friendly!

Thank you for your review. We are really sorry your steak was tough. We would have gladly replaced that dish had you mentioned it to your server. We are pleased te rest of your stay was to your satisfaction.

Stayed here for a week Monday to Sunday, great location close to all amenities, wonderful food we had a Dinner, bed+breakfast rate, would recommend this as food was extremely good. Service was overall very attentive friendly staff the whole stay was good and would definitely stay again, only complaint was our last breakfast the usual girl was not in and the receptionist was serving things did not go smoothly she was out of her depths.

Thank you for your review which we are pleased to note was largely complimentary. Regarding your final breakfast we were badly let down by a (now) ex-employee who no-showed and the receptionist, although not trained for breakfast service, very willingly lent a hand. Good for her I say!

We have just returned from a two night break at this hotel. We stayed in the Falstead House in a superior room overlooking the river. The room was immaculate with a queen size bed and really large shower. Bonus was the nice little sitting area overlooking the river. We stayed bed and breakfast - the breakfast was lovely and the waiting staff were friendly and attentive. The location is superb as you can walk into the city centre within a few minutes. This was our second stay at this hotel and we will definitely return.

Room Tip: It is worth paying a little bit extra for a room facing the river

Stayed here 13th March 2014 for 1 night it was not long enough!! It is in a beautiful location right on the River Ness. It has good car parking facilities, within walking distance of the shops and Eden Court is just across the river. The rooms are immaculate and comfortable, the bar is very cosy and welcoming with a log burning fire, just before we arrived we were discussing the fact that you couldn't get a lovely bar to go and sit in well we found one it is lovely!! We had a high tea as we were eating at 5.30pm and it was delicious and the scones along with the home bakes were to die for!!! Breakfast was great and the staff in the hotel were so helpful and friendly. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. We had just spent 2 nights DBB on a Spa break before staying at this hotel and this hotel knocked the spots off the hotel we had just stayed in. We discovered that there is beauty treatments available in this hotel so we will definitely be returning to this hotel. Thank you for looking after us so well :)))

We stayed here for 2 nights for my friends wedding and I can honestly say that this hotel is a wonderful hotel to stay at. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, they go out of their way to help you when you have a problem. Meals are something to look forward to and I love sitting by the log fire and candles in the bar at night. We will certainly returning for more weekend stays. We didn't even get this service from a 5 star hotel in Dubai! Will recommend staying at the Waterside to friends and family. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the River Ness. Beautiful view.

We stayed 27/02/14 to 02/03/14 as we were up at the Ness for a stranglers gig.
After initial problem with the booking, classic britains fault I suspect,we were giving room 104 which was lovely,ok bathroom slightly tired but not a problem,3star !
Food and service spot on.
I would say if you get" best room " from classic, and get the deal we got, then I would recommend.
Only downside, and personal preference,£4.90 for a pint of furstenberg !
Went to bar once, you do the maths.

Room Tip: 104,great view

Thank you for posting a complimentary review. Room 104 is down for a freshen up this week so bathroom shouldn't look "tired" any more. Furstenburg German lager is a premium product demanding a premium price. We are not a pub and this price in the hotel sector is not unreasonable. We have British lager at only £3.60 - there is a choice!

This place was one of the stranger places I've stayed in. I booked it because I liked its riverside location, it was recently renovated, and it had great rates. It's also got character--it's not a big, soulless corporate chain. Although, as I found out, at least you know what you're getting into with the corporate chains! The day we checked in, there was a big party going on in their dining room. We were told that our room would be right over all the ruckus, which was scheduled to go on until midnight. We were asked whether we wanted to take a room in the annex next door. We asked whether the rooms were of the same quality as those in the main building, and we were reassured that they were, in fact, superior. However, I have to say I disagree. The rooms weren't unacceptable, but they definitely were bizarre. To get to them, you walk outside and enter an unlabeled house. Then you climbed to the third floor, as there is no lift. Normally, I don't care, but we had luggage to contend with. The room itself was spacious enough, but there was almost NO LIGHTS! There were some weak lamps, but they weren't up to the task of illuminating the vast space. The mattress and bedding were on the sparse, utilitarian side. And the bathroom was STRANGE. The bath tub was elevated off the ground so that you had to really strain to climb into it. We're average sized people in average shape, so this is not a problem with body habitus... but we definitely were careful not to slip! And then the shower mechanism itself was weird, too. There was very little water pressure, and there wasn't quite a shower curtain. More like some weird glass panel thing that was hard to navigate around. But everything was clean and functional, so all in all, we were satisfied. Maybe if you could, try to get a room in the main complex, not the annex!

Thank you for taking time to post a review. You obviously stayed with us during the busy Christmas Party Season hence the suggestion that you be accommodated in our Felstead Town House, a recently renovated Georgian building. The low energy lighting found in many UK hotels, is indeed on the low side and is being replaced, on an ongoing basis with brighter, (lower energy) lighting. I am sorry if the lighting inconvenienced you. We are somewhat perplexed that you found the bed uncomfortable as we buy only the best and frequently receive great compliments about the comfort of the extra thick mattress covers we use. The bath/ shower area was designed to suit the area when it was created a few years ago and yours is the only negative comment we have heard. We fitted and furbished our Felstead Town House equal in quality to the rest of the hotel although it may have a few more quirks than its younger neighbour - the main building.
