My sister and brother in law treated us to a night at Culloden House while my husband and I were in Scotland visiting family on our honeymoon. It is a beautiful place and the staff are absolutely delightful.... When we pulled up I was thinking it might be a bit stuffy for such an incredible hotel, but was so surprised - classy, yet totally laid back at the same time. Our room was lovely, as was the spectacular view.. and the bathroom was beautiful. Very memorable stay. Thank you.

Culloden promises a high class hotel with good service and customer care.
This was not the case in our experience.

Our room was large (we had paid for the suite), but poorly furnished with decaying and shabby decor.
The bathroom was the low point of everything, it looked like it had not been touched for 20 years, the hot water took ages to come through and then dribbled out of the ancient shower.

There is no care in the rooms, no loving touches and a lot of things which aren't practical.
Nowhere to put your shower gel in the shower, the hairdryer doesnt quite reach the mirror, the duvet doesn't quite fit the bed and there isn't even a safe in the room. The room had lights which were not working, cobwebs in the bathroom, and a large clump of hair in the toilet when we turned up.
We requested coffee making facilities which never arrived, and although we had pre booked for dinner, we kept being asked to book again.

The food in the restaurant is good, but overpriced, we paid £130 for a meal for 2 with the cheapest wine on offer. The menu is quite limited and we were glad that we were only there 2 nights, as the menu doesn't change.

Overall I would not recommend this hotel, we have stayed in much better hotels for a lot less money. This hotel doesn't have nice Scottish character, it's just old.

Had an amazing stay at Culloden House Hotel. Just wish it had been for more than 1 night! The staff were all polite, very knowledgeable about the local area, and most importantly friendly! Feared that this hotel would be quite 'stuffy and snobby' but this was certainly not the case. The decor is in keeping with the building and very comfortable. Our bedroom was clean, spacious and well equipped as was our large bathroom. Dining in the hotel was innovative (where else would you get pineapple & chilli soup with popping candy?!) and catered for all tastes. Breakfast was locally sourced, hot and filling. All in all I cannot fault this beautiful hotel or their amazing staff! I can't wait to go back!

Given the very high cost we expected a top notch experience but while the building and grounds are beautiful, inside leaves much to be desired. The decor is tired and feels like it has never been renovated. It is grubby, shabby and very depressing. The beds feel old and saggy. Dinner and breakfast was a meagre affair reminiscent of the gastronomy of the 1950's. I feel like this property has seen better days.

The drive up to the Culloden House looked promising, but as we stepped inside, I knew we made a mistake. I don't have a problem with "old" but this historic site has lost its charm. The public spaces are very depressing. As we were taken upstairs to our room, we saw trays of old food on the floor and dirty towels strewn about in the hallway and on the furniture. Yuch. Our room was quite large, but smelled very musky and unfortunately, there was a dark mold-like stain on the bathroom ceiling. Unfortunately, the entire place needs some polish and re-furbishing and is certainly not worth the high price. Be careful, the photos are quite deceiving.

The whole family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Culloden House.
It was just as described on its website, and I was pleasantly surprised that the bathrooms were new (or at least in very good condition) despite the period nature of the house and decorations.
The room was huge with lovely views over the front lawn.
The breakfast was personal and the staff attentive.
The staff in general were very friendly and helpful, offering classic Highland hospitality.
My only tip would be one I got from a previous Trip Advisor review, which is to contact the hotel direct to get a price quote as we paid much less than the price quoted on the website. So was very good value at what we paid.

Our stay at Culloden House was fantastic from start to finish. Upon arrival Kyle, the receptionist/porter carried all our things up to our room and couldn't do enough to help and settle us in. We arrived late and, for a small(ish) hotel it was pleasing to see that there is a 24-hour room service. Although we ordered off this menu we were offered a late dinner in the restaurant, even though it was already ten o'clock. It was clear that, as the hotel was reasonably quiet, we had been upgraded to a larger, traditionally furnished room, with plenty of living space and an excellent view over the gardens. Breakfast was served to us, which was a refreshing change from the standard continental buffet at most chain hotels. Again, the staff were friendly and helpful with our waitress, Fiona, showing interest in us and stopping to chat or give advice about the local area. This level of personal service continued throughout our visit. We had dinner in the restaurant which was excellent and our waiter, Noel continued the excellent service. We feel the hotel offers superb value if you are looking for something away from the safe option of a hotel chain. We will definitely return if we are in this area again.
