All good :) we stay in family apartments, feels like home, lots of space, really very nice:)! We love it:) surprised with cleanness and privateness - you do stay here like at your own. Smallest have their own rooms here and they love it too... Good location, free swell parking, nice service. Recommend! :)

One would normally expect that a Scottish hotel on the tourist route through Inverness and the Highlands would be excellent. However, that is certainly not the case with Glen Mhor, and in fact I found my stay to be bereft with difficulties.

To begin with, for parents with push chairs or guests with a disability, the fact that the read car park is gravel rather than tarmac makes the uneven surface very hard to navigate, or for that matter even trying to move a wheeled case across the car park. To exit the car park requires a code to raise the barrier, and although I was provided with a code on my first night, someone in their wisdom changed the code the following day and omitted to mention it, resulting in the need to contact the reception to get a new code.

Although I was placed in the newest part of the hotel, I found the room had several snags. When I ran the bath at first, dirty water and dirt particles came out - almost as if it was bits of builders rubble. The carpet from the bedroom didn't quite reach the tiles in the bathroom floor and as a result there was an unsightly gap between the two. The worst problem related to the adjoining door between the room and the apartments next door. The door had no handle, and the gap where the handle should have been had been stuffed up with plastic to bring about some privacy. The door proved to be inadequate at masking the noise of loud snoring from the guest in the apartment reaching my room. There was quite a bit of noise of footfall from the room above, all of which meant that a good night's sleep was not attainable.

I have a major concern with the fire precautions in the room. Although there is a fire evacuation sign above some French Doors leading into the garden (the light from the sign casts an eerie glow over the room at night), the only means of opening the doors was by a turn lock at the top of the door. Surely in the case of a fire evacuation, the best idea is to get as low as possible to the floor, rather than looking for a means to open the door at the top. I question if this room has been approved for guest occupation. In general, the quality of lighting in the room was poor.

There is a certain meanness to the hotel. In most executive rooms, a couple of bottles of water would be complementary. However, the water in the room had a sign indicating that it would be charged at £3.85 per bottle!, and the toiletries were priced at £8.00 per bottle as well.

The breakfast was amongst the worst I have experienced in any hotel. There is a very poor selection of fresh fruit, my coffee on the first morning was cold and had to be changed, and the cooked breakfast was greasy and mediocre. On both days I ate breakfast in the hotel I was acutely aware of the fact that several quests were grumbling about a range of things, from the poor selection of food, through to poor service and unavailability of some items.

The unavailability of items extended to the restaurant, where the á la carte menu was 'missing' some items, so rather that the waitress focussing on the 'specials', the focus was on 'unavailable items'.

For the price paid, the experience was worse than I have experienced in budget hotel chains, and I am firmly of the opinion that the management in this hotel should be more aware of the problems guests are experiencing.

On check out, one would have expected to be asked if everything was all right with the stay. Amazingly, this was not asked, leaving me with no other option than to share my experience.

I would welcome the opportunity to hear from the management of the hotel as to how they would wish to recompense me for the appalling experience I endured.

If great food and outstanding service are your priorities then this is the place for you to visit. I can't say the rooms are a big selling point of this hotel, I had the smallest room I had ever encountered and two other colleagues staying at the same time had the exact same opinion. Add the £109 per night stay to the equation and value for money is certainly not going to score well.

This hotel has great potential, the location is outstandingly beautiful, but turning cupboards into bedrooms can only put people off for a second visit.

Our single rooms offers all comfort, all beds are brand new and they have been all refurbished recently. However they offer less space than double room.

Can't say anything wrong about this place....from the start to the end it was all very professional and clean.
When I enquired whether it was a twin or double (had specified a twin), they saw it was a double and straight away had someone up there changing it around, was all done by the time we got there!
Sometimes it's the simple things like that which stand out. Professionalism!
The room itself was gorgeous, spacious and exactly what we were after.
Thanks for the great stay!

This hotel is in a great, quiet location overlooking the River Ness but within easy walking distance to town centre. We stayed in the classic room which is the cheapest option. The room was clean & comfortable, shower room was small but spotless and perfectly adequate for an overnight stay. Hairdryer, iron & ironing board & kettle for tea/coffee in room. Friendly reception. Lovely river view. Good breakfast (quite a number of hot options available) with pleasant service. Free parking at rear of hotel & free wifi. Had a nice meal in Nico's bistro in the hotel, food and service good. No complaints would certainly return again.

Room Tip: River View

This hotel has a great central location looking out over the River Ness yet only five minutes walk to the main central area of the city.
The hotel was clean and comfortable. Nico's bistro is excellent and there is also a cosy bar.
As other contributors have stated the hotel is comprised of a number of converted houses and to get to and from some rooms to the restaurant and breakfast room you do have to go outside. It was not a problem for us but if it is a problem for you then discuss this on booking. Room 111 in the Riverside section was very nice.
One small criticism - I think that £3.95 for a bottle of mineral water in the room is excessive. In most hotels this is complementary!

We stayed for two nights in March. The room was comfortable with great double aspect views down the road and of the river. We ate in Nico's one night and the food and service were superb. Nicky Tams bar is wonderful also. Breakfast was very good. Staff for the most part were very friendly and helpful.

Would most certainly recommend the Glen Mhor and would stay here again when in Inverness?
