“Nice hotel, bathroom we had could do with a spruce up”
Reviewed 12 October 2009

We stayed here on our way back from the Orkneys for 2 nights. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. The only thing we didn't understand was why you had actually to go into the main dining room to see what food was on offer so we ate in the bistro instead. Food in there was good. The hotel is centrally situated for shops, restaurants etc.

Charming old hotel situated on the river walking distance to city center. Very helpful staff. Gym, pool and health club were above average. hotel could benefit from some minor cosmetic upgrades. Would return on next visit.

Stayed here for one night at the end of July en route to Orkney. We wanted somewhere with a pool in the centre of Inverness and this seemed to fit the bill for about £120. Parked in front of the hotel. Check in was speedy and polite and once we had got our luggage out, handed over the car keys to the leisure suite, whose staft took the car away to park in the nearby local authority car park.

The room was absolutely fine, a little old fashoned in style perhaps. but clean, quite large and perfectly acceptable. Although it was at the back you could see through to the river. There was free wi-fi broadband, though it was a bit on the slow side in this room.

The leisure suite was great: nice modern pool of a decent size with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, though the latter was not working. There was also a fully featured gym, which we did not use, but it looked fine.

Bed was comfy, shower powerful and so down to breakfast the next morning. This was the usual mixture of the staff bring you toast and tea and you help yourself to everything else. Good selection of fruit and "continental" options as well as the usual heart attack stuff. All perfectly good. We got a nice table in the bay window looking out on the river and the comings and goings. Check-out was speedy and the car was fetched immeidately from the car park for us.

All in all, I had no complaints at all. Though perhaps not the style of decor I would choose it's hard to find much to criticise about this hotel and I'm a little surprised at some of the negative reviews. The price seemed fair to me especially considering it's right in the centre of Inverness and has good leisure facilities.

I stayed in the Palace on a business trip and found the stay average. On arrival parking was a ploblem as there is limited spaces at the hotel. There is additional parking down the street but it quite a distence from the hotel. Check in was quick and friendly and staff offered lots of advice on various topics,
The room had a good view over the river and was well presented and cleaned. The room was rather dated and services were limited especially as the rather high price of £145 B&B. Over all needs to impove to justify price.

When we arrived we waited over 3 hours to check in. We were then given the keys to an absolutely awful room at the back of the main hotel - the decor was dreadul with a view of the wall of another building! When my husband complained to the receiption staff he was told he would have to speak with the manager - fortunately he was helpful and put us in a much better room immediately (with a great view of the river and castle). Although, the bed was incredibly uncomfortable. Sadly the good service ended there. The staff were sullen and in the case of one (who was seating people in the restaurant one morning for breakfast) downright rude!

We were not brave enough to eat in the hotel (the staff were truly offputting) but found some great places to eat in Inverness - The KItchen is particularly good but book a table.

Despite the building looking great and being in a great location the staff spoil it. Avoid this hotel.

On arrival to hotel, we circled a few times as there was no spaces in the carpark. Eventually my boyfriend deceided he would go in as we didnt no where to park and then a space came available. Check in was quick. Rooms were nice and spacious and bed was big and really comfy. Nice and close to town centre which was walkable. Starbucks coffee in hotel which was good. Would go back to this hotel again

My partner and I decided to book in here for a 1 night stay. We read various reviews and the web pictures looked quite nice so we went ahead as the discounts also seemed good value. We usually stay in the Kingsmills but fancied a change as this seemed to have similar facilities but was more central. We booked an executive room and this is where we got a tad confused!
On arrival we got a space in the car park no problem, entering via the rear of the hotel, passing the leisure facilities, which looked nice. We checked in, which took a while but this didn't bother us at all as the young lady seemed fairly new to the job. When we got up to our room we were pretty disappointed as it was clearly not an executive room? The room was tiny; bathroom dated and smelt of mould, there were scuff marks all down the wall and there was no lounge area just a small pine table and a couple of chairs. We thought there may have been a mistake so reluctantly we went down to the desk only to be assured it was indeed an executive room. We decided to check out as I was no way paying the "discounted" price of £143 for what we were given. We were pretty embarrassed as we have never done anything like that before.
No offer of another room or anything......oh well, back to the Kingsmills it was. We got a standard room here for a similar price, which was way nicer.
I must however add; the hotel seemed nice enough and it would have been fine for around the £90-100 mark. On this occasion we just wanted something a bit more special.
